David Boaz of the CATO Institute reminds us about World War I:
World War I was a catastrophe, a foolish and unnecessary war, a war of European potentates that both England and the United States could have stayed out of but that became indeed a World War, “the Great War.” In our own country the war gave us economic planning, conscription, nationalization of the railroads, a sedition act, confiscatory income tax rates, and prohibition.
Internationally World War I and its conclusion led directly to the Bolshevik revolution, the rise of National Socialism, World War II, and the Cold War. World War I was the worst mistake of the 20th century, the mistake that set in motion all the tragedies of the century. The deaths of those who fell at the Marne are all the more tragic when we reflect that they did not in fact serve to protect our lives and all that we value.
Over a hundred thousand Americans lost their lives, and nearly a quarter of a million were wounded.
What started World War I? Why did the United States get involved in a European War? 99.9% of America's Public School graduates cannot answer either question. Most graduate students in history could not answer the second question. Those who do not learn from the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them.
What mistakes have been made by the Federal Government in Washington D.C. since then?
In a nutshell, support of dictators and terrorists. A "Dictator" is a triumphant "terrorist." A "Dictator" commits acts of "terrorism" with legal impunity.
The U.S. Federal Government has a long history of supporting terrorists, and elevating them to dictatorship. The U.S. Federal Government has a long history of supporting dictators once they gain power.
The U.S. Federal Government overthrew the popularly-elected government of Iran and put a dictator in power, who was eventually overthrown by the people of Iran, and U.S. diplomats were taken hostage.
The U.S. Federal Government supported Saddam Hussein in his war with Iran.
The U.S. Federal Government supported regimes in Egypt and Syria which were utterly inconsistent with the principles of the Declaration of Independence.
The U.S. Federal Government has also lent its imprimatur on a dictator-terrorist in Uzbekistan.
Around the world, the socialists and fascists in Washington D.C. have been lighting powder kegs in the Muslim world. Muslims are growing sick and tired of the ersatz "Christian" government in the United States.
It only took one bullet to start World War I.
When will we hear the firing of the bullet that starts World War III?
