When last we left Benghazi, President Obama had lied in the presidential debate about taking two weeks to admit the attack was terror, with the assistance of lackey Candy Crowley.
Now, according to emails obtained by Reuters, it is clear the White House was informed by the State Department within two hours after the attack that the terrorist group Ansar al-Sharia was claiming responsibility.
An email dated September 11, 2012, 6:07 p.m. carries the subject line "Update 2: Ansar al-Sharia Claims Responsibility for Benghazi Attack." The body of the email states: "Embassy Tripoli reports the group claimed responsibility on Facebook and Twitter and has called for an attack on Embassy Tripoli."
Since the attack that killed an ambassador, two SEALs and another American official, we've been treated to the spectacle of an administration that first blamed a YouTube video, then slowly started to back away from that claim as lower-level officials began to say it "may" have been terrorism. Our UN ambassador told the world the video triggered the attack, then she started to point fingers at the State Department, who pointed fingers at our intelligence agencies, and the whole story started to unravel.
It kept unraveling until Hillary Clinton either threw herself or was thrown under the bus and accepted blame for the failures in security and called it a terrorist attack just in time for the bold Sir Obama to ride into the presidential debate and insist that he, alone of his administration, had identified Benghazi as a terror attack the very day after it happened, a lie just as boldly defended by CNN's Candy Crowley, who miraculously just happened to have a transcript of Obama's Rose Garden speech in her hand.
Of course, if she had read from that transcript and kept Obama's use of the word "terror" in context, it would have been obvious Obama was lying and did not identify the attack as terrorist.
The newly uncovered emails show that the Administration knew all along that it was a terror attack and they hid that fact.
Why would they hide it?
Because it turns out our "consulate" was no such thing, but actually an intelligence operation that was organizing the delivery of Libyan weapons and fighters to Syria for use in Obama's undeclared war against President Bashar al-Assad.
Further underscoring the Administration's foolish mishandling of the Mideast was the fact that Ambassador Chris Stevens was an openly gay man sent to deal with Shariah-loving radical Muslims. His end was probably fated as soon as he stepped off the plane.
The basic facts, then, are that the Obama Administration sent a gay man to act as go-between for radical Muslim fighter groups in fomenting a war in Syria, and the Administration didn't even think to send a squad of Marines to protect the operation. Then they covered it up.
That's what Obama's been hiding, and it's all due to his desire to win re-election and his overwhelming ego that lets him think the force of his personality is enough to reshape the Middle East.
