Three stories about the response of Islam after President Obama got re-elected caught my attention. The first has to do with some of Egypt’s antiquities:
According to several reports in the Arabic media, prominent Muslim clerics have begun to call for the demolition of Egypt’s Great Pyramids — or, in the words of Saudi Sheikh Ali bin Said al-Rabi‘i, those “symbols of paganism,” which Egypt’s Salafi party has long planned to cover with wax. Most recently, Bahrain’s “Sheikh of Sunni Sheikhs” and President of National Unity, Abd al-Latif al-Mahmoud, called on Egypt’s new president, Muhammad Morsi, to “destroy the Pyramids and accomplish what the Sahabi Amr bin al-As could not.”
You might recall how in 2001 Taliban militia supreme leader Mulla Mohammad Omar issued a decree ordering the destruction of all statues in Afghanistan including ancient pre-Islamic figures like the two massive Buddha statues in Bamiyan in central Afghanistan.
It’s interesting that liberals decried the destruction but have no trouble in taking down crosses, removing any reference of Christianity from city seals, and object to any mention of religion in government schools. I thought I’d throw that in as a reminder that there is a Liberal Taliban in America.
There’s a story out of Canada that demonstrates that the advance of Islam is not just against the “Great Satan.” We’ve been hearing that the reason Islamists attack the United States is that we are occupiers of Islamic lands. So what about Canada?
“A woman walking Sunday night by the sculpture in Coronation Park [in Toronto, Canada] — at the foot of Strachan Ave. and Lakeshore Blvd. W. — called police after noticing someone had taken a black marker and written ‘Canada will burn; Praise Allah’ on the memorial.”
Then there’s this:
“Iran’s vice president said Monday that Tehran will break the ‘grasping hands’ of newly re-elected President Barack Obama, the official IRNA news agency reported. Mohammad Reza Rahimi also said Iran will overcome U.S.-led sanctions against the country.
“We will break grasping hands of Obama and we will be successful in bypassing the sanctions,” Rahimi was quoted as saying during a research and scientific exhibition at Tehran University.
I have to wonder if the way the Obama Administration handled or didn’t handle the Benghazi embassy attack has emboldened the terrorists. They now know that they will not meet any resistance. “Today Tehran, Tomorrow the World.”
