Obama is Going Down in Flames and Republicans Are in Compromise Mode

President Obama’s approval is at 37 percent, the roll out of ObamaCare is a disaster, “Nearly 75% of Americans say they have not been impacted by the sequester cuts,” states are filling in the void of Washington’s failures, and Obama and Co. are getting most of the blame for the shutdown.

He’s ticked off the “Greatest Generation,” a group of wheelchair-bound men who fought for our nation’s survival and freedom who travelled to DC to see a memorial to honor their war-time blood, sweat, and tears. You don’t tick off these old guys without there being repercussions.

The following is from the Million Vet March on the Memorials website. Notice that only Obama and Democrats are mentioned:

In a mean-spirited fit of selfish anger, Barack Obama has shut down our nation’s war memorials. And he has declared open war on our honored veterans!

The World War II memorial … the Vietnam Veterans Memorial … the Korean War Veterans Memorial – Obama has shut them all down to force his will on the House of Representatives and frankly, to get revenge on the American people who oppose Obamacare and his other naked power grabs.

Let’s put it plainly: Barack Obama is behaving like a vicious tyrant. And if he succeeds in this assault on the democratic system, the Republic we love is at mortal risk. It’s just that simple.

That’s why I am asking you now to take two decisive moves to show Barack Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi – and all of their oppressive ilk in Washington – that “We the People” are still in charge. And we won’t rest until we take back our memorials and monuments!

The nation’s truckers are also upset enough to put together a convoy to Washington. I don’t think they’re fans of Obama.

Even DC Democrats are confronting Obama to his face. “D.C.'s non-voting delegate, Eleanor Holmes Norton, personally confronted Obama about the decision on Wednesday during a White House meeting attended by House Democrats.”

And so how are the Establishment Republicans acting? They think their party is losing the debate, and they want to “compromise” any chance they get. They’ve lost through compromise for so long that they don’t know what it looks like to win.

The action (or lack of it) of the GOP reminds me of the film The Loneliness of the Long Distant Runner (1962). Tom Courtenay plays Colin Smith. Smith is sentenced to a boys' reformatory for robbing a bakery. He runs to escape from his dreary world. His talent is noticed by “the Governor” who believes hard work and sports are ways to rehabilitate wayward youths.LonelinessOfTheLongDistanceRunner_Book

Smith fights the system at every turn. And in the final race against a prestigious boys’ school, Smith is leading. He can see the finish line. The second place runner is far behind. If Smith keeps a steady pace, he will easily win.

Just yards from the finish line, he stops running. The crowd begins to yell. “Run! Run! Finish the race!” Smith is unmoved by their shouts as the second-place runner passes him. He purposely loses the race.

If you want an image of the Republican Establishment, that’s it. They seem always to be running away from victory when victory is within their grasp

When some members of their party head for the finish line, the old-guard Republicans are lined up near the finish line trying to trip them.
