Boehner Waving Paper In Response To Obama’s Pen & Phone: Not That Impressive

I don’t normally follow John Boehner’s FaceBook feed, but someone brought to my attention that he (or whoever he hired) posted this picture

boehner obama pen phone constitution

His text with the photos had a few more words: “President Obama says he has a pen and a phone he can use to bypass Congress. Pens and phones are nice, but we have the Constitution…”

He is referring of course to Obama’s recent remarks. Here’s Politico’s report:

President Barack Obama offered a brief preview Tuesday of his State of the Union address, telling his Cabinet that he won’t wait for Congress to act on key agenda items in 2014.

“I’ve got a pen, and I’ve got a phone,” he said at his first Cabinet meeting of the year. Outlining the strategy, Obama said he plans to use his pen to sign executive actions and his phone to convene outside groups in support of his agenda if Congress proves unable or unwilling to act on his priorities.

“One of the things that I will be emphasizing in this meeting is the fact that we are not just going to be waiting for legislation in order to make sure that we are providing Americans the kind of help that they need,” he added, flanked by Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and Interior Secretary Sally Jewell.

“Overall, the message to my Cabinet, and that will be amplified in our State of the Union, is that we need all hands on deck to build on the recovery that we’re already seeing. The economy is improving but it’s in need of improving even faster,” Obama said.

Here’s the problem. Obama has people who will answer his phone. He has people who will read what he writes with his pen and follow his instructions. He has an army of them. He just gave them a raise and talked about how they all have it so rough.

As someone commented on Facebook:

Jefferson Davis had the Constitution, too. That's the last time in American history it had any relevance. We killed and buried it in 1865; its an interesting case study in organizational psychology that we keep trotting out the corpse for public viewing. It serves roughly the same purpose as Lenin's tomb served in the USSR.

Perhaps you disagree that secession is a Constitutional right or that the Constitution died at that point in time. Don’t be distracted by the particulars. I’m not blogging about the rights and wrongs of the “Civil War” (or whatever you want to call it). The point is that the issue was settled by armies and strategy, not by appeal to a document. The Constitution is useless if no one reads it or follows it.

So what real power does Boehner have to thwart Obama’s dictatorial strategy? Will the courts be timely and responsive? Will Congressional Republicans work with Republican governors and state legislators? Will Boehner point out that we don’t need to call anyone to rebuild the economy because Republicans are already doing it while Obama keeps shredding the economy?

If Boehner has a strategy, I would love to hear about it.

But please do something besides invoke the Constitution. The text can’t save us if no one follows it.

  1. On one hand boehner wants to act like a tough guy, waiving the Constitution, on the other hand he capitulates to everything the dictator wants. He caves and kowtows everytime obama uses his phone. He is standing ready to give the rubber stamp to the pacific trade agreement, he passed the open check book budget. He can't just dust off the Constitution now and then and waive it in the air, he has to stand up for it, like all of the veterans of this nation have done.

  2. Mr. Boehner... Do the right thing and abide by the powers of the Constitution, and you will have the backing of most of the people in the country.

  3. Odd as it may seem that's what Presidents do. George W Bush, one of the right heroes, had 279 Executive Orders. Obamas on tack with 149. So when you lose not o e but two Preside trial elections you do get guys (black or white) who do stuff. Gonna happen a lot for next 3 years. Then you get 8 years of President Cli ton a d First Man bill. That is unless you guys can quit fighting and let someone else besides Karl pick your guy. And of, quit pissing women, young people off. Or run a black guy and get all those black Uncle Tom votes. Go for it.

  4. The Constitution NEVER could save America. It's the reason America teeters on the precipice of moral depravity and destruction:

"...3. Every problem America faces today can be traced back to the fact that the framers failed to expressly establish a government upon Yahweh’s immutable morality as codified in His commandments, statutes, and judgments. (Would infanticide and sodomy be tolerated, let alone financed by the government, if Yahweh’s perfect law and altogether righteous judgments were the law of the land? Would Islam be a looming threat to our peace and security if the First Amendment had been replaced with the First Commandment? Would Americans be in nearly as much debt if usury had been outlawed as a form of theft? Would crime be
as rampant if “cruel and unusual punishment” had not been outlawed and criminals were instead punished with Yahweh’s altogether righteous judgments? Would we be on the fiscal cliff if we were taxed with a flat increase tax rather than a graduated income tax?)...."

    • Oddly, if we had a parliamentary form of government, the present administration would have been broomed out of office long ago. We really don't have 'accountable' representative government - and we never did.

      Time for another revolution.

  5. "Crybaby" Boehner is a big part of the problem we're facing. He's spineless, gutless and whenever the chips are down in a showdown with Komrade Obama, he collapses like a cheap lawn chair. To make matters worse, he then blames and alienates true conservatives for his failures. Unfortunately, there is nothing to suggest the upcoming battles with Obama and Harry Reid will be any different.

His phony posturing on immigration is completely transparent: Despite what he may say, he will support a massive reform that, in the end, will result in amnesty for 15-20M illegals; and that's not counting the 20-30M 'chain' immigrants (their relatives) who will come to the country once they've been granted citizenship. In total, we're probably looking at 40-50M illegals over the next 10 years; perhaps more..

If our tech' industries truly need high-skilled workers that our schools aren't graduating (and thanks to our dumbed-down public ed' system it's easy to understand why we aren't creating enough tech' savvy workers), then change the H1B green card laws. But DO NOT GRANT CITIZENSHIP to them, and don't grant citizenship to 15-20M illegals, the vast majority of whom aren't highly educated and don't possess needed skills.

We have WAY too much unskilled labor now which is contributing to an unprecedented unemployment situation, especially among black youth. We need more immigrants from Mexico and Latin America? I think not.

No more RINOs, and don't fall prey to Democrat tricks on immigration.

We got fooled in 1986 and it appears we didn't learn our lesson.

    No more.

  6. boner has no balls to stand up to the Hitler wannabe

    • Victor Magilke says:

Don't insult Hitler, he was a saint compared to Obama. At least he was a Patriot dedicated to his people and his nation.

  7. Obama is unstoppable. His 5 prior years have proved that.

  8. Boehner is almost as much of a problem as Obama !!!!!

  9. Boehner and the other Republicans should be suing Obama's butt EVERY DAY! Of course they won't. They're afraid the MSM and a couple of people out there will think they're mean. Boo hoo!

  10. CrustyOldGeezer says:

baynore and strategy in the same sentence?

    He huffs... and he puffs....

And the democrats laugh at him for being such a fool.

boehnor has done as much to destroy this nation as the democrats have, but either he's too stupid to see it....

Or he is in on it.

  11. Constitution? Obama don't need no steenkin' Constitution!
He has his teleprompter, his hammer, and his sickle.

  12. Victor Magilke says:

Barack Obama is the epitome of how dictatorships started. With a weak Speaker, he does just about anything he wants. Obama has no respect for the other two branches of Government. If Boehner stopped weeping so much and concentrated on stopping Obama's Marxist style of government, maybe we could save our nation from this fiasco. Boehner needs to stop boozing so much and do his job.

  13. Boehner is a LIMP RAG - - Vote the RINO out !!!!!!!!

  14. Congress is letting the destruction of America go too far. We are at a crossroad of ideological change, which is pushing for a change to the worse. When this country falters to the point of a coup, our military will step in to promote national calm. Boehner and Obama may have taken an oath to uphold the Constitution, and neither are upholding it, but, our military has taken the same oath and they are really hyped up about oaths! The Constitution is not dead, until our Marines, Army, Navy, and Air Force say that it is dead, and they will do so when Hell freezes over.
