NY Homeland Security Director Sweeps Room With Loaded Glock, Not Hello Kitty Bubble Gun

More proof it's not average citizens who need to be disarmed, but public officials. Really? Seriously? A State Director of Homeland Security is this irresponsible and clueless?

From timesunion.com:

Jerome M. Hauer, Gov. Andrew Cuomo's director of homeland security, took out his handgun and used the laser sighting device attached to the barrel as a pointer in a presentation to a foreign delegation, according to public officials. It happened Oct. 24 in Albany at the highly secure state emergency operations center below State Police headquarters.

Hauer, commissioner of the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, was disabled by a stroke a few years ago and can be unsteady. He isn't a law enforcement official. He carries the loaded 9-millimeter Glock in a holster into state buildings, an apparent violation of state law barring state employees from bringing weapons to the workplace, several witnesses say.

The incident with the Swedish delegation occurred during a two-hour briefing at the operations center concerning the state's response to Superstorm Sandy, according to one of the officials.

Asked about the matter over the course of several weeks, Cuomo's press aide promised to look into it but has repeatedly had no comment. Hauer's communications officer, Peter Cutler, also promised to look into it, but he has declined to respond beyond saying he is unaware that it happened. "I've heard rumors," Cutler said.

No one, including Hauer, has denied the episode happened. Approached by the Times Union at the Capitol after a meeting with Cuomo, Hauer was asked if he had used his gun as a pointer in a presentation. "You have bad sources," he said, but would not take follow-up questions.

Look at the first rule of firearm safety in this list (http://www.nssf.org/safety/basics/):

1. Always Keep The Muzzle Pointed In A Safe Direction

Now, read this: “...three Swedish emergency managers in the delegation were rattled when the gun's laser tracked across one of their heads before Hauer found the map of New York, at which he wanted to point.”

Newsflash: Before my children even touched a firearm, they learned the inviolable rules, and knew that a single violation meant the end of their practice session for the day. Using a weapon as a laser pointer... no... freaking... way.

Yet in New York, Mr. Hauer gets to carry a weapon and many citizens cannot. Dandy.

Now, think about the fact that we're suspending kids from school for having "gun-shaped" Pop Tarts, and pointing their fingers at each other on the playground... yeah... makes total sense.

  1. If a young school child can be suspended from school for biting his Pop Tart into the shape of a gun, what punishment does Jerome M. Hauer, Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s director of Homeland Security, deserve for sweeping the room with his real, loaded 9 millimeter Glock? Maybe it should be lose of his job and firearm permit and some jail time for reckless endangerment.

This is against the law you moron. You should be arrested for brandishing, lose your license to carry, and lose your job just because your STUPID

Marxism squelches liberties and freedoms in as many facets of life all at the same time. It is designed to overwhelm citizens. Awake Americans are witnessing the steel boot of Marxism at all levels of life. Once America's Ignorant Class wakes up it will all be over except for the crying...and the blood flowing in the streets. Their blood.

  4. Liberals don't want children to learn HOW to handle a gun and then don't understand when they turn adult and make a fool of themselves. I started with a bb gun at 12 and had to demonstrate proper handling of that before I moved up to a pellet gun, then a 20 ga. shotgun, then a .22 rifle. Throughout all this I was required to show proper handing of the guns and NEVER muzzle anyone (point the gun at them). When I went to basic training I already knew how to handle, clean, and fire a firearm. I was taught even more about pistols when I was a reserve policeman for 5 years. I've had guns for all these years (I'm 65 now) and never even thought of shooting anyone. Such ideas were not consistent with my training by my dad.

Now Maryland wants me to take a special course to be able to buy a pistol. It's supposed to take the place of all this I've been through. It's time they realized that people need good training when they are young so that they will use one properly when they are older. I'd start them with courses at least in middle and high school and have courses for them there. Then they will not end up with an unreasonable fear of them or a desire for them because they couldn't have them when they were young. Incidentally, I WILL take the course in Maryland because I think with something like a gun you never learn enough about the proper handling of them.

    • Congratulations on being 65! I'm a couple of months away from being 70. I didn't have anyone available to train me proper firearms handling when I was a child, so I depended on books to learn about that. It certainly didn't hurt that my mother insisted that all her kids obtained a firm Christian foundation from the earliest age. If one would only read and understand the "Golden Rule" then it should be clear that pointing the muzzle in an unsafe direction does not conform with treating others as you would like to be treated yourself.

CA has required a "handgun safety certificate" for several years now, but I haven't purchased a handgun for around 40 years, so I never bothered to get one. I have considered getting a 1911 again, but I am afraid autoloaders may soon be a thing of the past in CA and I don't want to have them take away something that expensive from me. For defensive purposes, loading up my .45 LC from the weak factory level or loading down my .44 Mag from the Grizzly level of factory loads is no problem, probably easier than taking the liberal exam. (Due to the cast iron frames of early 1873 Colts, factory loads for .45 LC are REALLY WEAK. Black powder loads in that cartridge are actually stronger.)

      • You are right about Christian attitudes. As I look at it now, that was probably the best part of my training.
For distance the .45 lc is truly not great. It's not a "war round" so you don't find surplus rounds available. But for home defense, that big piece of lead will bring a man down just about anywhere you hit him but not go through the walls of several houses. I quit using mine and sold it because at that pressure level there was excessive leading. I think you are right about the .44 mag. And you can buy .44 specials too.

        • When I was a kid I was constantly hearing that firing .22 Shorts in a Long Rifle chamber would erode it and then when a Long or Long Rifle was fired it would bell out and be hard to extract. Now I think that was probably because of lack of cleaning, but still the thought remains in my memory. That's why I don't think I would fire a .38 Special or .44 Special in a magnum chamber. It probably wouldn't hurt, but "better safe than sorry."
Load could always be adjusted by properly loading the cases for the intended purpose. Maybe I'm just old, but I think (except for the military and police that have no choice) that anyone that thinks he knows how to shoot but doesn't reload is almost as incompetent as one that thinks he knows how to operate a motor vehicle but chooses an automatic transmission instead of actually learning how to drive.

  5. This is the irony behind the disintegration of our second amendment and absolute proof that only idiots (leftists) and criminals will have guns!

  6. Jew or Nazi Master Race?
Jewish eugenics pre-dates Hitler's Master Race

According to the Israeli daily newspaper quoted below, before the Nazi
Third Reich in Germany plotted to create a Master Race from the
European gene pool, Zionists had already established a racial
purification program to create the perfect Jewish bloodline. More

    From the horse's mouth:

"Our race is the Master Race. We are divine gods on this planet. We
are as different from the inferior races as they are from insects.
In fact, compared to our race, other races are beasts and animals,
cattle at best. Other races are considered as human excrement. Our
destiny is to rule over the inferior races. Our earthly kingdom will
be ruled by our leader with a rod of iron. The masses will lick our
feet and serve us as our slaves." -- Menachem Begin (Israeli Prime
