Peter Hitchens on Flight MH17: “Don’t Be Propagandized!”

I have to say I’m greatly impressed with Peter Hitchens here. We persist in playing with fire, and then profess shock and outrage when innocents get torched.

Here’s an excerpt of his piece in the Daily Mail: “Mourn the victims… but don’t turn one tragedy into a global catastrophe.”

One thing we should have learned in the past 100 years is  that war is hell. We might also have noticed that, once begun, war is hard to stop and often takes shocking turns.

So those who began the current war in Ukraine – the direct cause of the frightful murder of so many innocents on Flight MH17 on Thursday – really have no excuse.

There is no doubt about who they were. In any war, the aggressor is the one who makes the first move into neutral or disputed territory.

And that aggressor was the European Union, which rivals China as the world’s most expansionist power, swallowing countries the way performing seals swallow fish (16 gulped down since 1995).

Ignoring repeated and increasingly urgent warnings from Moscow, the EU – backed by the USA – sought to bring Ukraine into its orbit. It did so through violence and illegality, an armed mob and the overthrow of an elected president.

I warned then that this would lead to terrible conflict. I wrote in March: “Having raised hopes that we cannot fulfill, we have awakened the ancient passions of this cruel part of the world – and who knows where our vainglorious folly will now lead?”

Now we see. Largely unreported over the past few months, a filthy little war has been under way in Eastern Ukraine.

Many innocents have died, unnoticed in the West. Neither side has anything to boast of – last Tuesday 11 innocent civilians died in an airstrike on a block of flats in the town of Snizhne, which Ukraine is unconvincingly trying to blame on Russia.

So PLEASE do not be propagandized by Thursday’s horrible slaughter into forgetting what is really going on.

Please, wake up! Many of those in government are not your friends—they are terribly flawed men and women (some of them outright wicked)—and they often have goals and agendas which are fatal to your freedom and prosperity.

Good article. As much as I hate to say it, the Russians aren’t the bad guys this time.

That’s right, mate MH17 had it coming!

      It’s Obama’s fault too.

No doubt! If I fart and you smell it, it’s Obama’s fault. Instead of sitting down and having a conversation on what should be done, the few bull-headed Repubs, fold their arms, stick out their lower lip and pout. C’mon people, let’s work together! Mitch McConnell (my Senator from Ky) is on record in 2009, saying that the Republican Party should do all it can to not pass any legislation that came from Pres Obama! They sure are trying their best! They talk about executive orders and how many he has made. Go back and check Bush’s record, he signed executive orders more than any Pres in history! Where were the Repubs when he proclaimed that he had “40 nations ready to roll into Iraq”? We maybe had 40 nations begin us, but one soldier from Ethiopia and another one from Cambodia was basically all we got from the “40 nations”. Sure, Australia sent a thousand troops, but the main contributions from these countries were more like, here’s a hundred soldiers, now we’ve done our part.

I did not know that the part of the coalition was made up on one Ethiopian and one Cambodian! Thank you for that nugget of gold.

You’re lucky to live in KY – Your senatator is a comic genius!

The terrorists we are facing down in Azania – S.A.,
also think they can bomb and shoot their way into
getting the country to split in two,
    then form their own state.
So it was for the Boeremag who thought they could bomb Nelson Mandela,
start a race war and drive all “non Whites” out of the country.
They were jailed in December for this attempt,
Facebook insists on hosting a support page for these race terrorists.
