“Insurance” for Pregnant Women in New York Now Available Throughout Pregnancy

According to USA Today, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a new law last week that will allow pregnant women to enroll in an insurance plan at any point in their pregnancy.  State lawmakers approved the legislation in June. So, what’s the big deal?  The big deal is that this legislation is forcing insurance carriers to accept something that is more than a risk in granting coverage to pregnant women at any time during their pregnancies.  Claims will be a sure thing from women who are already Read more […]

Free Speech for Real

Sometimes, I wonder if free speech is even a thing any more.  It seems that students on college campuses no longer protest because their right to free speech is being infringed upon; rather they are upset when people are allowed to speak their minds freely.  They are actually asking “the man” to intervene and regulate speech. What’s up with that? A recent story of a court battle in the trademark arena has given me hope, though.  The courts ruled that the Asian rock group, the Slants, cannot Read more […]

College Price Tag = Sticker Shock

I am the parent of soon-to-be high school graduates.  The oldest one at home will graduate from high school this spring, and we have been exploring his college options.  It has been an eye-opening experience.  It seems every college presents one price with the full expectation that financial aid and scholarships will bring the cost down significantly.  The idea of comparing apples to apples in the college cost comparison process is practically impossible.  It feels a bit like buying a car.  You Read more […]

Censorship is OK When Liberals Call For It

Remember times when Christians called for the banning of books that promote homosexuality or immoral sexual lifestyles?  How about when Christians tried to stop the placement of the Harry Potter books in local libraries?  Whether you agree with banning such books or not, the fact is, all Christians were lumped into the “ignorant hick” class by the liberal intelligentsia of the day. Fast forward to today in Philadelphia.  Last week, Friends’ Country School in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, Read more […]

You Can’t Please Everybody–Hunting Nun Causes a Stir

I grew up in western Pennsylvania, not far from St. Mary’s where Sister John Paul Bauer is from.  A few days back, a Facebook friend from my childhood posted a photo of the hunting nun that he found on the Facebook page for the Hunting Pennsylvania community.  Sister John Paul bagged her buck on opening day of deer season, which is always the Monday after Thanksgiving.  Anyone from western Pennsylvania knows when opening day is because, even if you don’t hunt, you get the day off from school. Veto Expected from Obama After Senate Passed Bill to Defund Planned Parenthood

Being pro-life, reading the headline “Senate Votes to End Federal  Funding for Planned Parenthood” was thrilling.  In a world that has so many senseless and crazy things going on, it is great to finally feel like the good guys get to put an “X” in the WIN column.  But, then reality sets in.  I know deep in my heart that even though the Republican majority in the Senate pushed the bill to end the federal funding of Planned Parenthood through, President Obama is not going to just stand by and let Read more […]

Planned Parenthood Clinic in Colorado Springs Attacked

On what started out as a relaxing day after Thanksgiving, tragedy broke in Colorado Springs, CO, yesterday. Here’s the report from The Washington Post: A suspect is in police custody following an hours-long shooting standoff at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, where at least one police officer and two civilians were killed Friday. “The perpetrator is in custody,” Mayor John Suthers declared just after 5 p.m. Mountain time — more than five hours after an active shooter was Read more […]

Should Skateboards be Banned Now?

Earlier this week, a young man at a Santa Ana, California, Starbucks acted out of self-defense when an older man approached him and attacked him.  The young man hit the older man with his skateboard.  Eyewitnesses gave this account to a local news station:  A man was pacing back and forth, bothering coffee shop customers outside the Starbucks location, and then began punching the store’s window. The man, who seemed to be on drugs, went inside and zoned in on a young skateboarder, the witnesses Read more […]

Obamacare Falling Apart? Yes, Please!

The government spin doctors would have us believe that Obamacare is the most successful federal program ever.  Just the other day, I saw an ad on a city bus that said people enrolled in healthcare.gov are saving as much as 75% on their healthcare costs.   Since my family’s health insurance premium nearly doubled when we were forced to switch to Obamacare and is about to go up nearly $100 per month beginning in January, I threw up a little in my mouth when I saw this dreadful lie strewn across the Read more […]

The Drive for Ethnic Diversity Takes a Wrong Turn

For the most part, the lack of ethnic diversity  at Clarion University of Pennsylvania and in the surrounding area doesn’t matter too much.  But earlier this month, it became the cause of disappointment to a group of students there and a source of economic trial to the University itself. The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported that the theatre department of the University was forced to cancel its fall play.  From the Gazette: Student actors and the stage crew at Clarion University arrived Tuesday Read more […]

Even Democratic Strongholds Struggle with Bathroom

Earlier this month, Political Outcast posted stories about bathroom bills in Texas that are not surprisingly facing opposition in the conservative state.  But now, it seems that our tolerant friends on the other side of the aisle are not quite ready to embrace the practice of transgenders being allowed to use any bathroom they please. According to the Massachusetts Family Institute, a bill that would have allowed transgender individuals to use whatever bathroom that they feel comfortable using Read more […]

Give Me an L, Give Me a G, Give me a B, Hold the T

Tolerance.  Acceptance of the way others are born. These are the hallmarks of the homosexual supporters.  Lesbians and gays have claimed to be loving and accepting as a group since, well, since they became a group.  And, up until very recently, the abbreviation, LGBT has been used to describe the movement.  The T, which is for transgender, is apparently getting the boot!  Transgenders may not be welcomed into the club any more. An online petition claims this about the transgender community: “The ideology Read more […]
