Show Us the Law or Free Kim Davis

This past Saturday, I had the great privilege of addressing a rally in support of Kim Davis. Kim Davis is the elected clerk of Rowan County, Kentucky, and she has been jailed by a federal judge for disobeying his order to her to issue marriage licenses to people of the same sex. She refuses to do so. Other speakers at the rally addressed the moral argument against her confinement.  That argument rests on the idea that our rights come from God and that no government can grant a right Read more […]

Agenda 21 and a Republican Approach to Fair Housing?

I have been a Republican elected official in Anne Arundel County now for about eight months.  This has been an exciting time and a learning experience.  Some things that I had hoped to accomplish I am happy to say have come to pass.  These include the successful elimination of “emergency legislation” that doesn’t comply with the definition of “emergency” contained in the county charter, and our attempted repeal of the rain tax. Also, one of the first measures passed by the County Read more […]

Government Mandated Mind-Reading

A government that outlaws thoughts is claiming to be a mind-reading government. Can you read my mind? Well the federal government is now saying that it can read my mind – and your mind. And it is ready to punish you for your thoughts. Does that sound like Nazi Germany to you? Me too. Recently, Representatives John Conyers of Michigan and Mark Kirk of Illinois introduced H. R. 1913 dealing with what they are calling “HATE CRIMES”. Now I was trained as an attorney at a law school Read more […]

Jonathan Gruber: Lies and Glue

The lies of Jonathan Gruber and his friends undermine the glue that holds society together. The recent revelations of statements by a professor from MIT named Jonathan Gruber, about how the Obama White House purposefully deceived the American people concerning the costs associated with Obamacare, are intriguing on a few levels. Mr. Gruber’s statements about the deceptive intent of the drafters of the Affordable Care Act, are, of course, outrageous and insulting on their face. But Read more […]

Lies about Obamacare: Are You Really Surprised?

Did you even believe the lies about Obamacare? Before last week, you had probably never heard of Jonathan Gruber. Gruber is the MIT economist who was once considered to be the intellectual architect behind Obamacare.  Nancy Pelosi now says he had nothing to do with Obamacare.  But back in 2009 she was quoting him publically and endorsing his published opinions on the matter. In any event, you have now heard about him because a series of videos have surfaced in which he candidly Read more […]

What Does the Republican Victory Mean?

A Republican victory will have meant something if we see real change. According to many pundits, the results of the November 4th elections, where Republicans gained at least seven seats in the US Senate and several more in the House of Representatives, represents a sea change in American politics. But will this change in politics represent a change in American public policy? In my view, here is how we will know. Will Congress take action to stop the murder of the unborn in America? Will Read more […]

No Jesus, No Rights!

If there is no Jesus there are no rights. Imagine you were playing football against a very determined opponent and a new rule was introduced. According to this new rule of play, your team could actually never have possession of the football. Every time you received a kick-off, or recovered a fumble, or intercepted a pass, or even when you took over on downs, play would stop immediately and possession of the ball would be returned to the other team. In this scenario you couldn’t possibly Read more […]

Constitution Not a Self-Enforcing Document

You and I must enforce the Constitution. The Constitution is not a self-enforcing document. Although the Constitution is the supreme law of our land and provides limits on the powers and authorities of our federal, state and local governments, its words cannot and will not leap off the page and enforce themselves. The common folk of America must be the champions of their own liberty. The people of America, if they would choose to enjoy the Blessings of Liberty, must first choose Read more […]

The Larceny Is Larger than You Think!

Government larceny has been going on a long time. The Houston subpoena of sermons was only the latest outrage. Last week the mayor of Houston enraged many Christians when the city subpoenaed the sermons of some Houston area pastors. This got me to thinking… Suppose you wake up tomorrow morning, walk downstairs and find a thief in your living room rifling through your furniture. He has already pocketed some cash from your desk drawer, and in his satchel he has tucked away your silverware, Read more […]

Multiculturalism: Good or Bad for America?

How is this multiculturalism working out for our culture? In 2008, during Obama’s first national campaign, Barack Obama is on record saying that America is not a Christian Nation. “Whatever we once were, we are no longer a Christian nation – at least not just,” Obama said. “We are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation and a Buddhist nation and a Hindu nation and a nation of non-believers.” He then continues by saying, “I think it’s time we joined a debate about how to reconcile Read more […]

FDR’s Second “Bill of Rights”

This is, perhaps, the most remembered phrase attributed to the cartoon character Pogo in a syndicated cartoon strip of the same name.  Pogo was the invention of cartoonist Walt Kelly and first appeared 66 years” We Have Met the Enemy, and He is Us: FDR’s 2nd Bill of Rights” ago, this week, on October 4th, 1948. The phrase “We have met the enemy, and he is us” pretty well sums up the Kelly’s attitude toward the foibles of mankind and the nature of the human condition.   Indeed, Read more […]

These Are the Times that Try Men’s Souls

“A long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right…” So wrote Thomas Paine in a pamphlet called Common Sense, which caused quite a stir back in 1775. It is widely believed that Thomas Paine’s philosophy greatly aided the cause of American Independence with a logic and a passion that aroused public opinion to hot anger and a firm resolve to resist English tyranny. But please take note:  Paine did not say that a long habit of not thinking Read more […]
