It’s a good thing that the people charged with protecting America from enemies foreign and domestic aren’t allowed to profile potential suspects.
We all know profiling is wrong. Just imagine if law enforcement had profiled a bunch of young Muslims whose hobbies included being on terrorist watch lists, being the subject of warnings to the U.S. by Russian and Saudi Arabian officials, spending time on jihadist websites, driving around with a sign that said “Terrorista #1.” …
Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev, who shared a room with bombing suspect Dzokhar Tsarnaev, have been arrested along with one other person in connection with the bombings at the Boston Marathon, which killed three and wounded hundreds.
According to authorities, Tazhayakov and Kadyrbayev drove around town in a black BMW with “Terrorista #1” printed on the front plate.
Imagine if officials had profiled these youngsters and just accidentally broken up a Muslim terrorist ring before they could pull off their bomb plot. How embarrassing would that have been?
After all, profiling is just wrong, wrong, wrong.
Seriously, though, as the Boston bombings investigation goes on, more and more information is coming out about what amounts to a tragedy of errors. There were multiple points at which this Islamic terror plot could have been stopped, not the least of which would have been a recognition by the Obama Administration that Islamic radicals, not Christians and military veterans, are the top terrorist threat to this country.
And it’s not just federal authorities who dropped the ball. Where were local police when Tsarnaev’s roommates were tooling around town in a four-wheeled billboard? Police can stop a kid on the street during school hours for no reason. They can’t pull over a couple of people with the equivalent of an “ask me about terrorism” bumper sticker?
Even now, weeks after the bombings and long after the main suspects turned out to be young Islamic males with a hatred of the American government that supplied them with food stamps, there’s still a reluctance in the liberal media to call the bombings what they were, Muslim terror.
Surely, the terrorists must be laughing at all of this.
