California Legislature: Pro-Lifers Must Push Tax-Funded Abortions

The California State Assembly just passed a law forcing crisis pregnancy centers to tell clients about “free” tax-funded abortions available to them.

I guess it was only a matter of time before a blue state would try to force pro-life crisis pregnancy centers to promote tax-funded abortions available in the state.

Breitbart.com reports: “California passes bill forcing pro-life centers to push abortion.”

On Tuesday, the California State Assembly passed AB 775, known as the Reproductive Freedom, Accountability, Comprehensive Care and Transparency (FACT) Act. Authored by Assemblymembers David Chiu (D-San Francisco) and Autumn Burke (D-Los Angeles), the bill states that the act “require a licensed covered facility, as defined, to disseminate a notice to all clients, as specified, stating, among other things, that California has public programs that provide immediate free or low-cost access to comprehensive family planning services, prenatal care, and abortion, for eligible women.”

Not only would the bill require some pregnancy centers, specifically those devoted to pro- life causes, to advertise the availability of abortion, but it would also fine facilities that do not comply. The bill states that it would “authorize the Attorney General, city attorney, or county counsel to bring an action to impose a specified civil penalty against covered facilities that fail to comply with these requirements.”

I suppose that some will think this is the moral equivalent of laws that require a woman to see an ultrasound before getting an abortion. Perhaps.

But the state has ways to promote its message without using a law that punishes pro-lifers for refusing to promote homicide for babies. The agenda here is not to promote abortion but to create an excuse for driving pro-life centers out of business.

Furthermore, there is no symmetry here. People who claim to be “pro-choice” should have no problem providing both options to women. The only reason that they balk at doing so is because they are lying. They aren’t pro-choice; they want women to have abortions. But pro-lifers have never lied about what they want. They want babies to be born rather than slaughtered.

Our pro-abortion ruling class is losing ground on abortion. We can expect more tactics like this.
