The EPA’s Climate Warming Sermon for the Holiday Season

This video was posted last year on YouTube, and it was posted again this year at the Environmental Protection Agency’s website. While it was posted for Thanksgiving, CNS News blogged about it after Christmas. As you can see, it applies to the whole holiday season: The EPA’s text to go with the video: Most people don’t realize how much food they throw away every day — from uneaten leftovers to spoiled produce. More than 96% of the food we throw away ends up in landfills. Once in landfills, Read more […]

Protection or Plunder? Whole Foods and New York City

I wanted to like this Associated Press story because, in theory, it is about the government doing what the government is supposed to do. It is supposed to punish fraud. I was actually prepared to say something nice about New York City’s government–a rare event for any government but especially in the case of the Big Apple. Sadly, there are enough doubts raised in the story that I can’t be so positive. In fact, looking at another news story, I think this amounts to blackmail with AP only reporting Read more […]

“Insurance” for Pregnant Women in New York Now Available Throughout Pregnancy

According to USA Today, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a new law last week that will allow pregnant women to enroll in an insurance plan at any point in their pregnancy.  State lawmakers approved the legislation in June. So, what’s the big deal?  The big deal is that this legislation is forcing insurance carriers to accept something that is more than a risk in granting coverage to pregnant women at any time during their pregnancies.  Claims will be a sure thing from women who are already Read more […]

Porngate Shows Us What Kind of People Rule Us

The audio in the above video could be better, but the basic point is that the Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane, who is in some legal trouble at the moment, has exposed others in a scandal. According to the Washington Post, There are jokes about rape and sexual assault, photos mocking African Americans and other minorities, and insults leveled at people because of their weight, their sexual orientation or their religion. At least two state Supreme Court justices and numerous officials Read more […]

Believers In Global Warming See What They Want to Believe

Since I recently posted about government food and nutrition “science,” perhaps I should revisit bad science in another area. We are having unseasonably warm weather right now. Here is a recent Associated Press video: For at least one of the people interviewed, the weather is obviously the result of “global warming.” He complains of those who resist the belief. To Associated Press’s credit, the description of the video acknowledged the real scientific consensus: A weather pattern partly Read more […]

Overregulation and the Failure of Obamacare’s Biggest Co-op

I’ve covered the collapse of many Obamacare co-ops, and how they failed because they were built on Liberal/Socialist ideas. Here’s some confirming evidence from the Daily Signal: “How Overregulation Led to the Collapse of Obamacare’s Largest Co-Op.” A new report examining the collapse of Health Republic of New York, Obamacare’s largest co-op, said its failure—which may lead to a $265-million loss of taxpayer dollars—can be attributed in part to heightened regulatory control by the state. According Read more […]

Jonah Goldberg on Government Imposing Food Superstitions as Science

National Review has published an editorial that needed to be written: “The Growing Food Fight over the Government’s Nutrition Guidelines.” Writers for Political Outcast have touched on the subject several times, most recently in my post on the stacked committee that has produced the guidelines. In the National Review article, Jonah Goldberg writes, In Good Calories, Bad Calories, Gary Taubes chronicled how the federal government went all-in for a low-fat, high-carbohydrate food pyramid. The Read more […]

Chicken Pox as Child Abuse?

KSDK reports, “Woman’s chicken pox party concerns authorities.” It’s been a longtime practice among parents who believe in natural immunizations. Chicken pox parties are popular with families who want their children to catch the disease, rather than be vaccinated. However, a visit to a Plano mom’s home by Child Protective Services this week has triggered worries within the community that authorities may be prosecuting them as bad parents. The mom said that CPS knocked on her door because she Read more […]

State Medical Care Means State Medical Negligence

Our own problems with Veterans Affairs hospitals are not unique. Most government agencies and bureaucracies display the same criminal negligence. Thus, BBC reports, “NHS trust ‘failed to investigate hundreds of deaths'” The NHS has failed to investigate the unexpected deaths of more than 1,000 people since 2011, according to a report obtained by BBC News. It blames a “failure of leadership” at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust. It says the deaths of mental health and learning-disability Read more […]

Treating Climate Summit Protesters as Terrorists in Paris

This is classic statism. Paris suffered a horrific terrorist attack. Therefore, the state was given new powers in order to deal more effectively with terrorists. But now the law is being used against anyone protesting or disrupting the work of the climate summit in imposing expensive energy on everyone. The New York Times reports, “France Uses Sweeping Powers to Curb Climate Protests, but Clashes Erupt.” The French government is using the sweeping emergency powers it gained after the Paris terrorist Read more […]

Town Destroys Vet’s Home while He Is Recovering from Surgery

Local government is supposed to provide you with services.  One of the main services, supposedly, is protection from robbery or destruction of property. This includes protection from mob violence. We are told that the government keeps a person safe from the crimes his neighbors might commit against him if they were angry with him for some reason. But there is evidence that sometimes it works exactly the opposite way. Rather than providing protection from the mob, sometimes the government enables Read more […]

Coming Soon to the U.S.: Punitive Tax on Meat

As you know, from news of cities regulating soda sizes to complaints about school lunches, there are people in power who are determined to save us from our eating and drinking habits. Now, news from the UK shows us what will soon be happening in our country. Breitbart London reports, An influential think-tank with close ties to government has co-authored a report advocating so called meat tax as a means to lower meat consumption worldwide. Tackling climate change and improving public health Read more […]
