Macy’s: What Recovery?

It is amazing to me thinking about the news in 2008 and comparing it to the news now. The economy was getting ready to crash and the liberal media was hammering Bush and the Republicans in general. The crash that finally came was a huge help to the Democrats with the media operating as their echo chamber. Compare that to what is happening now. AP reports, “Macy’s cutting 4,800 jobs after dismal holiday sales, a harbinger of hard times for retailers.” Macy’s is slashing jobs, a harbinger of hard Read more […]

Will Obamacare Be Repealed?

Obamacare’s repeal is going to Barack Obama’s desk, and notorious pen, to get vetoed. I have been pretty cynical about this repeal because Congress could have defunded it and forced Obama to make hard choices instead of merely having to veto this legislation. Instead, they funded everything Obama wanted. But Chuck Donovan claims at the Daily Signal, that despite Obama’s veto power, the Affordable Care Act is doomed. This week, the House of Representatives will clear a bill to repeal the Affordable Read more […]

Obamacare Fine Still Not High Enough; People Are Opting Out

I posted about how the Obamacare fine is going up. But new media reports I have seen indicate the fine may not be going up enough. The New York Times reports, “Many See I.R.S. Penalties as More Affordable Than Insurance.” Clint Murphy let the deadline for getting health insurance by the new year pass without a second thought. Mr. Murphy, an engineer in Sulphur Springs, Tex., estimates that under the Affordable Care Act, he will face a penalty of $1,800 for going uninsured in 2016. But in his view, Read more […]

Obamacare Fine (or “Tax”) Goes Up to Match Rates and Deductibles

With the cost of Obamacare skyrocketing, naturally the penalty for not buying the massively overpriced  insurance, that leaves consumers paying a great deal out of pocket, must also go up. From the Epoch Times: “Affordable Care Act Penalties Set to Skyrocket for Americans Without Health Insurance.” Americans without health insurance will face harsher penalties in 2016, with the financial cost more than doubling over the previous year for some. Those without health insurance were charged $325 Read more […]

Overregulation and the Failure of Obamacare’s Biggest Co-op

I’ve covered the collapse of many Obamacare co-ops, and how they failed because they were built on Liberal/Socialist ideas. Here’s some confirming evidence from the Daily Signal: “How Overregulation Led to the Collapse of Obamacare’s Largest Co-Op.” A new report examining the collapse of Health Republic of New York, Obamacare’s largest co-op, said its failure—which may lead to a $265-million loss of taxpayer dollars—can be attributed in part to heightened regulatory control by the state. According Read more […]

Hillary Clinton Claims Republicans Will Repeal Obamacare. Probably Lying.

Wouldn’t if be nice if Hillary was speaking the truth? CNS News tells us, “Hillary Clinton: Republicans ‘Would Repeal the Affordable Care Act’” In her opening statement at the third Democratic presidential debate hosted by ABC News at St. Anselm College in New Hampshire on Saturday night, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that Democrats have to “prevent the Republicans from rolling back the progress that we’ve made.” “They would repeal the Affordable Care Act–not improve Read more […]

Obamacare Helps Close Down a Restaurant

The Daily Signal gives us a story about one of the many restaurants throughout the nation that are not able to pass on Obamacare prices to their customers. If you ask Tom Loventhal, a deli is no more than a place to provide customers with comfort food. Whether it’s breakfast—served all day—soup or a sandwich, Loventhal’s motto has always been that at his Nashville, Tenn.,-based deli, “anyone is welcome here from ages 0 to 99, because you’ll find something on the menu.” And for nearly Read more […]

State Medical Care Means State Medical Negligence

Our own problems with Veterans Affairs hospitals are not unique. Most government agencies and bureaucracies display the same criminal negligence. Thus, BBC reports, “NHS trust ‘failed to investigate hundreds of deaths'” The NHS has failed to investigate the unexpected deaths of more than 1,000 people since 2011, according to a report obtained by BBC News. It blames a “failure of leadership” at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust. It says the deaths of mental health and learning-disability Read more […]

Another Obamacare Co-op Bites the Dust

The hits just keep on coming! Amid the spate of bankrupted Obamacare co-ops there was one that was still going strong. But, now we learn, not so much. The Associated Press reports, “Lone Profitable ACA Insurance Co-op Losing Millions.” The lone health insurance cooperative to make money last year on the Affordable Care Act’s public insurance exchanges is now losing millions and suspending individual enrollment for 2016. Maine’s Community Health Options lost more than $17 million in the Read more […]

CBO: Obamacare Will Discourage More People from Working

The Hill reports more “benefits” of the Affordable Care Act: “CBO: 2 million jobs’ worth of hours lost under ObamaCare.” ObamaCare will force a reduction in American work hours — the equivalent of 2 million jobs over the next decade, Congress’s nonpartisan scorekeeper said Monday. The total workforce will shrink by just under 1 percent as a result of changes in worker participation because of the new coverage expansions, mandates and changes in tax rates, according to a 22-page report released Read more […]

Restaurants Try to Make Customers Eat Obamacare

Prediction: Obamacare will cause a wave of restaurant closings. Chief Justice Roberts said that the Affordable Care Act’s fine for not purchasing Obamacare insurance was Constitutional because it was really a tax. That was legally outrageous but it was economically interesting. What is the difference between the government taxing you for the sake of “services” the government wants to provide and the government fining you for the same reason? The fact is Obamacare is a massive tax in lots of ways. Read more […]

Weighed Down by Obamacare, Etc, Is the Weak Holiday a Surprise?

The Associated Press reports, “Early signs of weak holiday spending send retail stocks lower as traders return from holiday.” Early signs of softness in holiday spending sent retail stocks lower on the first day of trading after the Thanksgiving holiday. Macy’s and Kohl’s each fell 2 percent Monday, while Target fell 1 percent, more than the rest of the market. Health care stocks also took a tumble. Drugmakers Celgene and AbbVie each fell 3 percent. The Dow Jones industrial average gave up 78 Read more […]
