Colorado is home to some of the best hunting and fishing in the nation. When I heard about all of the new anti-gun laws being proposed and passed in the mountain state, I was shocked and gravely disappointed. I’ve already heard from some people that they will never travel to Colorado for any reason, let alone to hunt or fish because of their new anti-gun laws.
But let’s take a look at the intelligence of one of the key legislative supporters of those new anti-gun laws.
State Rep. Diana DeGette has been spearheading much of the Democratic effort to disarm and strip the constitutional rights of Coloradoans. One of her pieces of legislation is to ban magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. The state recently passed a bill to ban all magazines that hold more than 15 rounds or can be converted to hold more. DeGette’s bill would lower that to 10 rounds.
On Tuesday, she was speaking a gun control forum in Denver when someone asked her how limiting the number of rounds in a magazine would help reduce violence. Her reply is priceless:
“I will tell you these are ammunition, they’re bullets, so the people who have those now, they’re going to shoot them. So if you ban them in the future, the number of these high-capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time, because the bullets will have been shot and there won’t be any more available.”
Had I been in the audience I would have laughed out loud as some in attendance were reported to have done. When I first read her response, I instantly thought of the famous line from Forest Gump where he says:
“Stupid is as stupid does.”
Owen Loftus, Colorado GOP Spokesman commented on her statement saying:
“It’s extremely alarming that Rep. DeGette is running federal legislation to ban magazine clips, when she doesn’t even know what a magazine clip is. Rep. DeGette’s comments show that Democrats are more concerned with appeasing their radical base than standing up for responsible, law abiding citizens.”
State Sen. Greg Brophy, a Republican that has been fighting against all of the anti-gun legislation in his state, said DeGette’s statement was ‘stunningly stupid.’ He went on to say:
“I would think that if you’re going to sponsor a bill regulating [firearms], you’d at least want to know how they worked.”
From DeGette’s comments, it sounds like she believes that you buy an ammunition magazine fully loaded and when you empty it out, you just throw it away. She obviously has no clue what she is talking about or what she is doing. This is a prime example of clueless Democrats reacting to a situation without any forethought or knowledge. It’s a typical knee-jerk reaction and when standing in the right place, a good knee jerk can result in a swift kick in the butt and that’s exactly what Democrats like DeGette need.
Perhaps Coloradoans need the DeGette Law which states that once a state politician’s term is up, you throw them away, just like her concept of used magazines.
