False Advertising And Doctor Shortages: Courtesy Of “Covered California” Obamacare

So your government has fantastically improved on the horrible experiences you were having with only medium overregulated health insurance (and graciously got that junk cancelled for you at no extra charge) by giving you a website so you could compare products—something we never got to do before, apparently. So now all you have to do is go to a website and see all your various options (if you are lucky enough to live where you have options). So now you go through the different plans and look at what they offer, including the doctors they have in their network, to decide which is right for you.

You choose the plan that offers all those network doctors who are conveniently close by… only to discover after making the purchase that not one of those doctors will take your insurance.

The website lied to you. Good luck suing the government.

But more than just the misinformation, Obamacare is making doctors run away:

From the L.A. Times:

A month into the most sweeping changes to healthcare in half a century, people are having trouble finding doctors at all, getting faulty information on which ones are covered and receiving little help from insurers swamped by new business.

Experts have warned for months that the logjam was inevitable. But the extent of the problems is taking by surprise many patients — and even doctors — as frustrations mount.

Aliso Viejo resident Danielle Nelson said Anthem Blue Cross promised half a dozen times that her oncologists would be covered under her new policy. She was diagnosed last year with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and discovered a suspicious lump near her jaw in early January.

But when she went to her oncologist’s office, she promptly encountered a bright orange sign saying that Covered California plans are not accepted.

“I’m a complete fan of the Affordable Care Act, but now I can’t sleep at night,” Nelson said. “I can’t imagine this is how President Obama wanted it to happen.”

First of all, Danielle, I think you might be surprised what the President wanted. Or, rather, what the designer of the plan wanted. (Obama may not want anything other than his next vacation for all we know.)

Second, and more important, what he wants doesn’t matter. Economic reality is what it is. Obama made a lot of promises without any way of bringing them about. He can’t make health care better any more than he can make the clouds rain down wine.

When you attempt to lower prices by crushing doctors you find doctors don’t want to work with you. Until the President announces his plan to cut off the limbs of doctors’ children unless they work for nothing, we are going to see doctors continue to opt out.

Why are people so intentionally stupid?
