We’ve seen liberals like Melissa Harris-Perry come out in the media and proudly proclaim that we need to get away from this idea that children belong to their parents and realize that our kids belong to the community, and that it “takes a village” to raise a child. This is where the State comes in to “help” parents with the raising of their kids by educating them for the parents who are often both at their own respective jobs.
The State then gets to decide the curriculum and chooses which subjects are OK and which are to be avoided. They’ll teach creation as a “belief system” and evolution as science. They’ll teach that white people are endowed with “privilege,” that they’re born racist, and that blacks and other minorities are born victims. They’ll indoctrinate students to believe that there’s nothing at all unnatural about a child having 2 moms or 2 dads.
This has been the danger of government schools from the beginning, and over time the government’s true agenda has shown through. It’s now less about basic education and more about indoctrination. Brainwashing kids to be good socialists. Turning them into willing slaves who falsely believe that they are free. After all, it was Hitler who remarked that whoever owns the youth, gains the future.
This brainwashing agenda can be seen clearly in a recent example in a Jacksonville, Florida government school. A few months ago, a local attorney had come by Cedar Hills Elementary School to teach 4th-graders about the Constitution. But after the attorney had given his talk, the schoolteacher apparently instructed at least some of her students to write down a statement that glorifies Statism.
Then, last week, a student’s dad found a piece of paper in his son’s backpack with that statement written in crayon. It had been there since the class with the attorney months before. The blue, yellow and red-colored statement read: “I am willing to give up some of my constitutional rights in order to be safer or more secure.”
This is the antithesis of what Ben Franklin said: “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”
Not surprisingly, the student’s dad Aaron Harvey was stunned to say the least. When he inquired about it with school officials, they said that he wasn’t the first person to complain about it, and that there would be an “investigation.”
Although they haven’t completed their investigation, they’re now claiming that Mr. Harvey’s son wrote that statement “on his own free will.” Aaron’s not buying that though. He said that his son would never have written such a thing on his own that his son wasn’t the only one who told him that the statement came straight from the teacher. Another student told him the same thing.
Besides, can you imagine a 4th-grader coming up with that statement himself? “I am willing to give up my constitutional rights in order to be safer or more secure.” Yeah, I’m not buying it either.
Mr. Harvey said that he only wants his son to receive a “proper, unbiased education.” Sorry, Mr. Harvey. That’s not going to happen with a government school. That would defeat the purpose of government education. They’re not trying to teach. They’re trying to program.
