Marriage Is Nothing Special, or So Claims the Presbyterian Church (USA)

For the record, there are several Christian denominations with the word, Presbyterian, in their name, that had nothing to do with the public apostasy committed by the Presbyterian Church (USA) last week. NBC News reports,

The top legislative body of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) voted by large margins Thursday to recognize same-sex marriage as Christian in the church constitution, adding language that marriage can be the union of “two people,” not just “a man and a woman.”

The amendment approved by the Presbyterian General Assembly requires approval from a majority of the 172 regional presbyteries, which will vote on the change over the next year. But in a separate policy change that takes effect at the end of this week’s meeting, delegates voted to allow ministers to preside at gay weddings in states where the unions are legal and local congregational leaders approve. Nineteen states and the District of Columbia recognize same-sex marriage.

As far as I can tell, whether or not the amendment passes with the 172 presbyteries is largely irrelevant. The denomination is already publicly bearing false witness about God and his word by allowing ministers to preside at same sex ceremonies aping weddings.  They are, thus, publicly re-crucifying Christ, telling the world that the ascended Lord of the universe, who died for our sins and was raise for our justification, is an ethical moron and homophobe who no one should follow.

The PCUSA tells us “marriage can be the union of ‘two people.’” Jesus said it was otherwise:

He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”

And what God has therefore joined together, let no organization that pretends to be a church replace with same-sex partnerships.

One hardly needs to be a Christian, or even opposed to homosexual acts on moral grounds, to recognize that calling same sex alliances “marriage” is delusional and socially damaging.

Has marriage ever in the history of the world been regarded as a generically possible “union of two persons” with no reference to the real gender of the people involved? There have been polygamous cultures and there have been all sorts of sexual activity outside of marriage. But I don’t know of any nation in history that made the sex of the people involved irrelevant to marriage.

And what sort of history would we have if such a definition of marriage had ever gained prominence? The human struggle against famine and disease was already difficult enough without taking away the value of procreative sex. It isn’t difficult to figure out that any culture that did promote homosexual “marriage” would have died out to be replaced by cultures that were not that stupid.

May the PCUSA meet their fate speedily, before they can mislead many more.

As much as I am opposed to atheism, atheists seem like devotees to truth compared to the frauds that pretend to be Christians in the PCUSA.
