If The President Can Credit Michelle Obama With Lowering Childhood Obesity, Then He can Get Away With Anything

I know there were much more dangerous and important things said in President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address, but one relatively minor claim completely surprised and shocked me.

But what I offer tonight is a set of concrete, practical proposals to speed up growth, strengthen the middle class and build new ladders of opportunity into the middle class. Some require congressional action, and I’m eager to work with all of you. But America does not stand still, and neither will I. (Applause.) So wherever and whenever I can take steps without legislation to expand opportunity for more American families, that’s what I’m going to do. (Cheers, applause.)

As usual, our first lady sets a good example. Michelle’s — (applause) — well. (Chuckles.) (Cheers, applause.) Yeah. Michelle’s Let’s Move! partnership with schools, businesses, local leaders has helped bring down childhood obesity rates for the first time in thirty years, and that’s an achievement — (applause) — that will improve lives and reduce health care costs for decades to come.

No, I’m not shocked by his threat (promise) to use executive power. I’m amazed that, to prove to us that the executive branch could bring help to the nation, he made up such a bizarre and unbelievable claim. Michelle Obama and her partners helped bring down childhood obesity rates?

Do people believe this garbage?

It seems they do. Retweeting moronic idiocy is cool.

Thus:

And:

Of course, the “Let’s Move” Twitter account gladly boasted in Obama’s words:

I was happy to see a few twitter users pushing back:

One tweeter wisely observed that it was sad that childhood obesity got more attention than the NSA. Makes sense to me! Dear Mr. President, before making absurd claims about healing all our diseases, why don’t you first devote yourself to not violating our rights. Then, once you are not hurting us any more, you can try to help us.

Where did the President get the idea that his wife had accomplished such an amazing feat? I found one source that said the rate of increase in childhood obesity in the United States has slowed down. But that is hardly the same thing as lowering the obesity rate! And the slowdown could simply means we have reached some kind of saturation point.

There are liberals who have looked at the science behind Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign and found it misguided in addressing childhood obesity. It is incredible that Obama can get away with simply declaring that the obesity rates have lowered and that credit goes to Michelle Obama for it.

If Obama can casually toss off these insane claims and then use such a claim as evidence that his Big Government ideology gets the results that he promises, then there is no reason to believe anything said in favor of Big Government. Obviously, Obama is not a President, but a cult leader, who has no need to prove anything to his followers. He simply says the word and they believe him because he’s Barack Obama.
