A Christian school in Arkansas has the right idea and most common sense plan to combat school gun violence. The “common sense” ideas of the left have been to display “gun-free zone” signs on campus to somehow discourage murderers with nothing to lose from shooting up a bunch of people. It’s worked so well in the past. And, if it’s ever failed, it just means the “gun-free zone” campaign needs more money.
Arkansas Christian Academy in the city of Bryant has the opposite idea. Instead of advertising to the world that no guns are allowed, they have a sign that warns criminals that the staff is “armed and trained”:
“Staff members began receiving training and permits to carry weapons earlier this year, in response to the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn. Now, a sign outside Christian Academy stands as a warning to any would-be shooter. ‘Staff is armed and trained. Any attempt to harm children will be met with deadly force,’ reads the sign.”
If you were a criminal, what would scare you more? A sign that proudly proclaims that they have no guns anywhere on campus, or a sign that says school officials are packing heat? I know it’s a dumb question, but obviously a lot of people, a lot of schools don’t get it. Gun-free zones have made schools very dangerous places. But I bet this Christian school in Arkansas is one of the safest schools in America.
Schools in the Clarksville School District had the same idea as this Christian school. They even went as far as training, permitting and arming their teachers. But then, the State Attorney came out against the plan, and a state regulatory agency eventually put an end to it altogether.
I guess they want the public schools to be dangerous places, and the private schools to be safe. Maybe that’s not such a bad thing after all. Maybe it will convince more parents to get their kids out of government schools.
