Study Predicts Earth Heading Into Mini Ice Age

A new study claims that sometime between 2030 and 2040, the sun’s energy cycles will cancel each other out and produce a mini ice age on planet Earth.

So much for the science of global warming being settled.

Professor Valentina Zharkova discussed the findings at a National Astronomy Meeting in Wales. So far, the new model has been producing more accurate predictions than was previously possible, according to the Daily Mail.

Scientists have known for some time that the sun operates in 10- to 12 -year cycles, with more solar flares and sunspots during times of high activity. The new model calculates activity based on two layers of the sun, one close to the surface and one deeper inside.

According to the predictions, the two energy layers coordinate to create higher activity, and when they fall out of sync with each other, solar activity decreases. But in the 2030s, the two energy cycles are expected to be completely out of phase with each other and produce a “Maunder minimum,” which was last seen  beginning 370 years ago, when temperatures fell so low the River Thames froze.

That Maunder minimum period lasted from 1645 to 1715.

Previous calculations of the solar cycles have been difficult because of poorly understood variability in the sun’s convection currents. But Zharkova’s team found that adding the second convection layer, or dynamo, near the surface of the sun has increased the accuracy of calculations to 97 percent.

“We found magnetic wave components appearing in pairs, originating in two different layers in the Sun’s interior,” [Zharkova] said. “They both have a frequency of approximately 11 years, although this frequency is slightly different, and they are offset in time.”

This study gibes with some other scientists’ findings that we were entering into a period of low solar activity.

Not that any of this will stop the global warming crowd, who decided long ago that the Earth was going to warm, come hell or high water. There are too many government plans in action to back down now.

Plus, the Left has been assuring us for years that any perceived slowing of warming or, God forbid, decrease in temperature was really still caused by global warming, which apparently can trigger every type of weather known to man.

If Zharkova is correct, however, the sun is going to have the final say.
