Obamacare Fine Still Not High Enough; People Are Opting Out

I posted about how the Obamacare fine is going up. But new media reports I have seen indicate the fine may not be going up enough. The New York Times reports, “Many See I.R.S. Penalties as More Affordable Than Insurance.” Clint Murphy let the deadline for getting health insurance by the new year pass without a second thought. Mr. Murphy, an engineer in Sulphur Springs, Tex., estimates that under the Affordable Care Act, he will face a penalty of $1,800 for going uninsured in 2016. But in his view, Read more […]

CNBC: Next Year Many Obamacare Prices Go Up by Double Digits

Now we have further confirmation that Obamacare prices are going to spike even more. So far, Obamacare seems to be designed to throw massive amounts of money at insurance companies. I don’t doubt that rationing will also come as an effort to restrain these prices, but for now they are just allowing the public to be gouged. CNBC reports on “Obamacare’s many double-digit price hikes for next year.” Insurers have asked for double-digit rate increases for nearly 1 out of every 3 Obamacare Read more […]

Obamacare Eliminates Grad Student Health Insurance Help

Grad student health insurance will no longer be subsidized because Obamacare changed the rules. In many colleges and universities graduate students are employed in various jobs that provide a little bit of pay. At the University of Missouri, part of the compensation for such graduate students was help with health insurance. Now, thanks to Obamacare, Students have been given fourteen hours notice that they could no longer get any help with insurance. KBIA reports, “Graduate Students Discuss Read more […]

Health Insurance Giant Gets Massive Profits Thanks to Obamacare

The health insurance Giant Aetna is profiting a great deal through the Affordable Care Act. Burce Jaspen writes at Forbes.com, “Aetna CEO Says Obamacare An ‘Attractive Growth Opportunity.’” How nice for him. Health insurer Aetna said it would make more money than originally anticipated thanks to “attractive growth” from new enrollment on public exchanges under the Affordable Care Act. Aetna now expects its 2015 earnings per share of “at least $7.00” compared to an earlier Read more […]

Big Insurance Companies Were Always Behind Obamacare

Don’t believe the lie that big insurance companies opposed Obamacare and then got won over. You may have noticed a couple of days ago some stories about how the insurance companies are now defending the Affordable Care Act. The Washing Examiner ran a story, “Insurers ‘will strenuously resist Republican efforts to dismantle’ Obamacare.” Remember how much President Obama and the Democrats portrayed Obamacare as a broadside to the special interests, especially the health insurers? Nancy Read more […]

Confirmed: Obamacare Raised Premiums

A new study proves that Obamacare raised premiums for insurance in all but six states, and raised them the most in some of the most populous states. As I’ve already posted, the New York Times and USA Today have both recently shown how medical expenses are rising out of reach of the middle class. The New York Times has also reported that people are avoiding medical care because they can no longer afford it; their out of pocket expenses or co-pays are too high. Now here is more news from Forbes.com: Read more […]

Storm of Obamacare Insurance Cancellations Hits Colorado

Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, notice of Obamacare insurance cancellations are going out to many Coloradans. It is all just more fallout from the Big Lie: “If you like your plan you can keep your plan.” The Colorado Division of Insurance announced Friday a surge in health-care policy cancellations in the wake of Obamacare, just what Democratic candidates in high-profile races didn’t need less than three weeks before Election Day. In a letter to state Senate Republicans, Colorado Read more […]

Walmart Stops Health Insurance for Part-time Workers

Walmart has been vociferously criticized for paying minimum wage. Employees attack Walmart for providing a job, which they accepted, but which they say does not pay enough. (Enough for whom?) But now we find out this largest employer of part-time workers in the nation has also been providing health insurance benefits for these part-time employees. How many other companies paying minimum wage would provide those kinds of benefits. But that is now over. Walmart is stopping. No longer will Read more […]

To No One’s Surprise Obamacare Death Panels Are Back

Obamacare death panels are stupid paranoia. No intelligent person believes in them. Except that they are real. There is still plausible deniability, I suppose, because this isn’t a direct edict from the Affordable Care Act. But that is a ruse. The New York Times reports: “Coverage for End-of-Life Talks Gaining Ground.”  Five years after it exploded into a political conflagration over “death panels,” the issue of paying doctors to talk to patients about end-of-life care is making Read more […]

Big Brother/Big Business is Watching… Your Weight… and Your Marriage, Mental State…

I listened to this NPR story this morning, without expecting to write about it here. The headline says it all: “Targeting Overweight Workers with Wellness Programs Can Backfire.” This is mostly about the private sector. The lesson definitely has some application to what might go wrong, say, if the First Lady was to try to impose “healthy” foods on school kids against their will or if schools were to ban birthday treats in class. But for the most part it is only about large corporations and Read more […]

Consumers Say They Prefer “Junk Plans” to Obamacare: Thankfully All-Knowing Dems Took Choice Away from Them

Is there any way to describe in words how patronizing the defenders of the Affordable Care Act must be to not slink away in shame? I don’t think so. According to the Daily Caller: “ Americans who were allowed to keep their non-Obamacare compliant insurance are happier with their coverage than those with Obama administration-approved health plans, according to a Thursday survey from the Kaiser Family Foundation. Kaiser’s latest survey of individuals who signed up for coverage in the individual Read more […]

Obamacare Insurance Rates Starting to Skyrocket for 2015

It is horrible news for us, the American people trying to make a living. But as political news goes, it is actually rather wonderful, especially if these stories multiply as we approach the 2014 elections. Back in November 2013 I said that it seemed as if the Affordable Care Act was going to make the insurance companies crash and burn. Of course, the alternative to crashing and burning, for insurance companies that survive 2014, is to pull sharply out of their nosedive in 2015. That would mean Read more […]
