Bad News via NPR regarding Common Core

I listened to this story on NPR yesterday, and it was pretty depressing. Especially, the part about Common Core. The print portion of the story only gave a thumbnail sketch: The controversy over the much-maligned Common Core State Standards will diminish. States will continue their efforts to re-brand or rename the standards, while for the most part following them. Despite the political controversy, the push for high academic standards will continue, and we’ll see little of the “race to the Read more […]

You Can’t Say Anything about Women that Doesn’t Apply to “Trans Women”

On Point with Tom Ashbrook is NPR’s answer to the Rush Limbaugh Show. One hour today seemed like it might be interesting. Medication and Female Moods Are American women being prescribed psychiatric drugs – anti-depressants, anti-psychotics — for normal emotions? We’ll hear out one psychiatrist’s bold claim. I thought this was interesting because I’ve heard similar arguments about children and the medications to treat ADD and ADHD. This especially affects boys. But a friend posted about Read more […]

Free Speech for Real

Sometimes, I wonder if free speech is even a thing any more.  It seems that students on college campuses no longer protest because their right to free speech is being infringed upon; rather they are upset when people are allowed to speak their minds freely.  They are actually asking “the man” to intervene and regulate speech. What’s up with that? A recent story of a court battle in the trademark arena has given me hope, though.  The courts ruled that the Asian rock group, the Slants, cannot Read more […]

Common Core Standards Push Political and Social Agendas

Common Core standards for education sound good on paper.  After all, the goals of the standards are lofty and noble.  Consider what the Common Core website says to explain the purpose of the initiative: State school chiefs and governors recognized the value of consistent, real-world learning goals and launched this effort to ensure all students, regardless of where they live, are graduating high school prepared for college, career, and life. In the 6 years since the program launched, controversy Read more […]

Government Nanny-State Propaganda: Starving Kids Is Good for Them

Starving kids is now such a dogma, that Liberals congratulate corporations for padding their own profits to do it. I can almost feel sorry for businesses like McDonald’s due to all the grief they get by the zealots for the superstition of minimum wage. But pity can’t override the repugnance I feel when they get congratulated for reducing customer service under the pretense of health. You can find the story at NPR.org, that great fountain of establishment propaganda: “About A Third Of Read more […]

The Media Endeavors to Defend Planned Parenthood Based on Planned Parenthood

Does it seem appropriate to defend Planned Parenthood by “reporting” on a study sponsored and promoted by Planned Parenthood as if it was real news? Earlier I posted about how the White House defended Planned Parenthood by doing nothing more than rehearsing the talking points released by Planned Parenthood. Now we find the entire news media is following the White House’s example. Thanks to Twitchy for pointing this out in their post, “Mollie Hemingway amazed how quickly Planned Parenthood’s Read more […]

Police Bayonets – Whose Idea Was That?

Have you already heard about police bayonets? I have written about the militarization of police so much that sometimes I simply ignore the stories and look for other fare. So I almost missed NPR’s revelation that, along with the grenade launchers, and the armored vehicles, the military is giving police bayonets (and combat knives too). I have seen footage from other countries of riot police using all sorts of gear to put down a mob. Greece under austerity comes to mind. But I have never Read more […]

Minimum Wage: Liberal Seattle Business Owners Now Facing Monster They Created

I heard this story this morning on NPR. It made me smile. Some politicians in Seattle are campaigning for a $15/hour minimum wage. But now reality is suddenly dawning on people. The current Mayor, Ed Murray, campaigned on the mandated pay hike, but now he is trying to slow down the movement. He is trying to come up with some kind of compromise that will count benefits and tips into the total. He wants to find a way that will allow him to claim to have kept his promise, but that won’t damage the Read more […]

NPR Tells Us Politicians Want Early Childhood “Education” For No Reason, But Tries To Lie About What They Tell

The headline is a big lie: “Boston Finds That Quality Preschool Is Worth The Effort.” How do I know it is a lie? Because I listened to and read the story. The story tells us that “Boston” has “found” nothing of the sort. Sandwiched between human interest distractions, here is the truth they are trying to get you ignore: But not everyone is sold. Some preschool research shows academic gains fading by third grade. Critics say a program without staying power is hardly worth a big public Read more […]

NPR On How Disarmed Sheep Should Respond To An Active Shooter

The most alarming thing said on this NPR story is that mass shootings or attempted mass shootings have tripled. But that just means we have gone from 5 a year in 2009 to 15 a hear more recently. That is too recent to prove a trend line. Furthermore, the odds of you getting involved in a mass shooting are still astronomically small. There is helpful encouragement in the story and interview (I’m especially referring to the audio), but the presentation also had a nightmarish surreal quality. The Read more […]

New NPR Spin: Republicans Guilty For Not Bringing The Bread For Democrats’ Excrement Sandwich

Yes, it is a gross term, but it refers back not to Martin Bashir’s recent infatuation, but to Michelle Malkin’s reference. Unfortunately, the audio on the NPR web page for the story goes to the odious vote of the Church of England to ordain women as bishops. I managed to download the file from the rundown page. Hopefully the file confusion will be fixed and you can listen to it on audio. But maybe all NPR’s tech people have been drafted to go try to complete healthcare.gov. But this shameless Read more […]

NPR’s Immigration Double Standard: A Story With No Mention Of “Undocumented”

I heard the story on my radio this morning and the hypocrisy blew my mind. NPR is just fine with Europe trying to stop illegal immigration from Africa. The story even used the term “illegal” more than once. It never mentions “undocumented workers.” Libya and Europe get better treatment in this story than Arizona ever did. It seems one of the militias in Libya is hired to stop illegal immigrants from going through their country to the coast. While the story did allow some more pro-immigration Read more […]
