Toni Morrison says she wants “to see a cop shoot a white unarmed teenager.”
Ed Krayewski at Reason.com says that this is “borderline sociopathic.” Drop the first word and then I will agree.
He quotes from Toni Morrison’s interview at the Telegraph:
I want to see a cop shoot a white unarmed teenager in the back,” Morrison says finally. “And I want to see a white man convicted for raping a black woman. Then when you ask me, ‘Is it [racism] over?’, I will say yes.”
That anyone could claim that a white male has never been convicted of raping a black woman shows a monstrous will to imagine an ugly fantasy for the sake of grievances rather than face reality.
Let’s start with the rape request. Admittedly, it is hard to find documentation but consider this:
Kermit Smith was originally charged with 1st degree murder, 1st degree rape, and armed robbery of Whelette Collins.
The charges were combined for the trial even though Kermit Smith objected to this. The jury found Kermit Smith guilty of first degree murder, second degree rape, and common law robbery. The trial court ordered the death penalty for the murder conviction in accordance with the jury’s recommendation. The trial court also sentenced defendant to consecutive prison terms of forty years and ten years for Kermit Smith’s convictions of rape and robbery.
Kermit Smith was white. Whelette Collins was black. The crime took place in 1980. I have no idea why there was a change from first to second degree. But since the jury also convicted him of a capital crime, it doesn’t seem likely they wanted to spare him anything.
I thought it was odd that Krayewski didn’t directly address the rape wish fantasy that Morrison articulated. But as soon as I began googling about white males who rape, I began to suspect that maybe Reason.com has a limit to how much political correctness they can violate in one day. Morrison would be wiser, if she wants to promote her cause, to never say anything that raises the issue. Because the prominent results are articles like this one from Front Page Magazine:
To see the real truth of the matter, let us take a look at the Department of Justice document Criminal Victimization in the United States, 2005. (Go to the linked document, and under “Victims and Offenders” download the pdf file for 2005.)
In Table 42, entitled “Personal crimes of violence, 2005, percent distribution of single-offender victimizations, based on race of victims, by type of crime and perceived race of offender,” we learn that there were 111,590 white victims and 36,620 black victims of rape or sexual assault in 2005. (The number of rapes is not distinguished from those of sexual assaults; it is maddening that sexual assault, an ill-defined category that covers various types of criminal acts ranging from penetration to inappropriate touching, is conflated with the more specific crime of rape.) In the 111,590 cases in which the victim of rape or sexual assault was white, 44.5 percent of the offenders were white, and 33.6 percent of the offenders were black. In the 36,620 cases in which the victim of rape or sexual assault was black, 100 percent of the offenders were black, and 0.0 percent of the offenders were white. The table explains that 0.0 percent means that there were fewer than 10 incidents nationally.
So is this all a huge racist conspiracy. Has the information changed since 2005? Regardless, a white man was convicted of the rape of a black woman and was executed in 1995. So we live in that post racial society now, don’t we?
Oh, but what about the shooting Morrison is waiting for.
Based on data reported to the FBI, in 2009 41.7 percent of people killed by cops were white. At 1,000 police killings a year—as fair an estimate as is possible to make with incomplete data—even assuming white deaths in police custody are over-reported to the FBI, that’s at least 200 white people killed by cops a year. For maximum racial retribution, Morrison can take comfort in the realization that, statistically speaking, at least one of those people was killed by a black cop.
And we have covered such stories. This man was executed in his own home while lying face down. I guess he wasn’t unarmed at first, since he thought he and his wife were threatened by returning robbers.
Claiming that police violence is limited to black people is completely inaccurate. Morrison needs to renounce bloodthirstiness and do some fact-checking.
