White House Spokesman: “I Don’t Know” Why Gun Sales Are Up

Here’s a headline from the Washington Times proving that it is impossible to distinguish the propaganda from the Obama Administration from The Onion: “White House: No idea why Americans are buying so many guns.”

President Obama’s spokesman said Thursday that the record number of Americans seeking to buy guns in recent weeks is “a tragedy” that the White House is at a loss to explain.

“The more that we see this kind of violence on our streets, the more people go out and buy guns,” said White House press secretary Josh Earnest. “That is both ironic and tragic.”

Apart from the delusional “ironic” label, what about people buying guns is tragic? Is Earnest saying that all those Americans are intending to become ISIS mass shooters? Perhaps he is claiming that buying a gun should be reprehensible because of the news of guns being used in multiple homicides. At best, that’s like claiming it is tragic for people to buy cars after a news story about someone committing vehicular homicide.

Asked why he thinks so many Americans are buying guns, Mr. Earnest replied, “I don’t know, I really don’t.”

Earnest is not that delusional. He is just trying to foster delusional thinking in others. He goes on to list one major reason for the surge in gun purchases, but he attempts to bury it in lies.

“In some cases these are individuals who believe that they need to buy a gun so that they can better protect themselves,” he said. “In some cases because it’s Black Friday, they probably are going and purchasing a gift for a friend or a loved one who is a gun enthusiast. I’m just pointing out that there are already an astonishing number of guns on the streets of America and far too many innocent Americans who are being killed by them.”

What else could any rational person learn from the San Bernardino shooting? That the police will save you? That you should be quiet and not draw attention to yourself?

Your president would prefer you get killed than that you protect yourself from a shooter.

The other reason for the surge in gun purchases is the President is about to make them harder to acquire.

At a vigil this week for victims of the 2012 mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, presidential adviser Valerie Jarrett said Mr. Obama has ordered his aides to quickly finalize gun control recommendations for executive action. White House aides said the proposals will be aimed at keeping guns out of the hands of people with criminal records, likely meaning expanded background checks, and preventing people who are mentally ill from owning firearms.

Set aside the unconstitutionality and criminality of such an order, what does this have to do with the latest mass shooting?

We live in a fine country. When we get attacked by an enemy our President immediately turns it into a rationalization for further disarming the victims.

What side is the White House on?
