Why Should Trump Defend The Truthfulness of a Proven Liar?

How could Trump defend Obama on the basis of what he has claimed about himself when he has made false claims?

So, a guy at one of Trump’s events claimed that Obama is a Muslim and Trump didn’t get into a fight with the man on Obama’s behalf. I’ve heard the media pointing out how great it was that John McCain wouldn’t stand for such behavior.

Yeah, I’m sure the media would love to browbeat Donald Trump into following the playbook of a Republican loser. No one who respected McCain’s fight for Obama’s honor ever bothered to vote for him.

For the record, I don’t think it is remotely plausible to claim that Barack Obama is a Muslim. He’s a pansexual leftist. His pedigree is Chicago Marxism and Saul Alinsky, not Mohammad. The evidence that he is a Muslim is no better than the evidence that he is a Christian.

But Trump is exactly right in his response to the outrage. As Newser reports, “Trump Fires Back: I’m Not ‘Obligated’ to Defend Obama.”

“Am I morally obligated to defend the president every time somebody says something bad or controversial about him? I don’t think so!” he tweeted. Then he pointed out that “this is the first time in my life that I have caused controversy by NOT saying something.”

He reeled off three more, one asserting that president Obama wouldn’t have defended him if the situation were reversed, another saying the media would have castigated him on free-speech grounds if he had challenged the man, and another saying that Christians’ “religious liberty is at stake” around the world.

That last tweet also asserted that Barack Obama has been horrible at defending the Religious liberty of Christians. That is true. And by “religious liberty” I mean the freedom from the fear of suffering a gruesome death because one is a Christian.

But how could Trump say to anyone that he knows that Barack Obama is not a Muslim if favoring same-sex marriage does not count against the possibility? All he would have to go on is Barack Obama’s own claim. But what does that prove? Barack Obama said he didn’t believe in same-sex marriage and anyone who said otherwise would have been called a liar. But we all know now that he was lying. He also claimed to support Americans who wanted to keep their doctor or their health insurance to let them do so. That was a lie as well.

So how can Trump claim that Barack Obama is telling the truth when he says he is not a Muslim? He can’t. He had no basis for making any claims about what the President believes because the President is not trustworthy.

Donald Trump was wise to keep silent.
