Why You’re Not Hearing about Dr. Kermit Gosnell

Grisly murders involving decapitations, the killing of infants, the murder of a young immigrant woman, and a callous maniac who doesn’t seem to have any feelings about the atrocious things he’s done. . . Sounds like the kind of stuff you’d be hearing about on the news, right?

As much as we hate it, the media love a good real-life horror story. It boosts ratings. It makes money. It’s mercenary but we’re all used to it. So why hasn’t the mainstream media been covering the Philadelphia trial of “Dr.” Kermit Gosnell? Is it because they suddenly had an attack of conscience and decided it would be better not to capitalize on such wanton destruction of human life? I don’t think so.

You see, Kermit Gosnell, I hesitate to call him “doctor,” was an abortionist. And the multiple babies that he decapitated were, for a short time, survivors of botched abortions. So the real reason the mainstream media isn’t talking about Dr. Gosnell is because his existence doesn’t cast abortion, abortionists, Planned Parenthood, or the pro-choice movement in a very positive light. In other words, this trial gets a little too close to the truth of what abortion actually is: cold-blooded murder.

What Planned Parenthood is willing to talk about is sometimes quite puzzling. Some of its more recent advertisements have been tasteless to the extreme. But sex-focused tackiness is par for the course for Planned Parenthood. Because first and foremost, they want women to think of their “women’s health” clinics as hip and sexy. And botched abortions and flat-out murder are not hip and sexy. Apparently. Not yet. How it is that Planned Parenthood has managed to convince so many women that abortion isn’t anything other than the flat-out murder of an innocent life is beyond me.

And this hypocrisy runs through the court system as well. Gosnell is charged with murder for having decapitated babies post-partum. But if the babies had just been in the womb when he dismembered them, that would be okay. One second earlier, he’s a social crusader fighting for women’s health against the troglodytic knuckle-draggers who still want to keep women in chains. But, as it is, he is a sociopathic murderer. So the problem with the story is not that it misrepresents the pro-choice movement and abortions. The problem is that it presents it all too accurately. And there is nothing the mainstream media hates more than reality.
