An Olympic Entitlement Mentality

The London Olympic Games promised to be epic, but Londoners and spectators are less than impressed. While fans and family members of athletes are getting increasingly frustrated by being refused tickets to Olympic events, local London businesses are not getting the expected boost in sales they were anticipating. Many merchants and owners are saying their sales are down 30-35%. Hotels have been hit especially hard, many not seeing the “filled to capacity” they were promised by Olympic and government Read more […]

A Test for the Tea Party and the Downfall of the GOP Establishment

There are a number of big elections across America today. Georgia has one. The GOP establishment wants us to vote for a tax increase for transportation. It’s called the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax or T-SPLOST. The proposed 10-year, 1-cent regional sales tax will raise some $18.7 billion statewide. It’s been described as a bloated boondoggle. There’s a sign near our home touting a 2006 tax that was passed by the voters. The multi-acre tract has a small shed and some Read more […]

Is the Stage Being Set for World War III?

David Boaz of the CATO Institute reminds us about World War I: World War I was a catastrophe, a foolish and unnecessary war, a war of European potentates that both England and the United States could have stayed out of but that became indeed a World War, “the Great War.” In our own country the war gave us economic planning, conscription, nationalization of the railroads, a sedition act, confiscatory income tax rates, and prohibition. Internationally World War I and its conclusion led directly Read more […]

Homosexuals Wanna Have Their Wedding Cake… and Eat It Too

The owner of Masterpiece Cake Shop in Lakewood, Colorado has recently been the “beneficiary” of a number of protests in response to his unwillingness to make wedding cakes for homosexual “marriages.” In the wake of Dan Cathy’s now famous declaration of support for traditional families (which we all know from the mainstream media was a foaming-at-the-mouth attack on “gay” “marriage”), homosexual advocates are doing everything they can to turn low-profile instances of following one’s Read more […]

The Aurora Massacre and the War on Meaning

The Batman massacre by orange-headed defendant James Holmes is a noisy burp following an extended sit-down meal at a buffet-style restaurant in a strip mall of modern philosophy. The fare in the first course is a high-fat all-you-can-eat consumerism with two side dishes — steamed post-modernism and cream-slathered despair. Nestled between is a bun from enriched white flour, largely decorative. The attack that killed 12 and wounded 48 people in an Aurora, Colo., movie theater is forcing Americans Read more […]

6-Year-Old Gives 10 Reasons NOT to Vote for Obama!

Out of the mouths of babes. Maybe Liberals and so-called Independents can understand why voting for Barack Obama a second time is a bad idea if they hear it from a six-year-old. Liberals need to be treated like children. They speak in cliches. They repeat what others say. They can’t think for themselves. Adults need to be around to keep them on track so they won’t hurt themselves. This six-year-old sounds more like an adult than most liberal adults. He’s articulate, gets to the point, and it’s Read more […]

Has “In God We Trust” Become a Fraud?

Fifty-six years ago today, on July 30, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a joint resolution of the U.S. Congress, authorizing “In God We Trust” as the U.S. national motto. Atheists have claimed that the phrase was purely political; a Cold War concoction to counter the atheism of the Soviet Union. But the phrase goes back before Karl Marx was born. In reporting the Joint Resolution, the Senate Judiciary Committee stated: “Further official recognition of this motto was given by the Read more […]

30,000 Drones Will be Watching Us

When the communists were a threat in the 1950s and 1960s, the American people made their own preparations for safety and survival. Americans knew their government could not save them from every contingency, so a number of them took matters into their own hands. Many of them built fallout shelters in their backyards. It seems the best that our government could do for us in the event of a nuclear attack was to suggest that we “duck and cover.” That meant hiding under your school desk when the Read more […]

Who’s Going to Win in November?

In trying to simplify the state of the race and move past the statistical dead-heat that the national polls show the race in, I have done a little more electoral map analysis today.  I have taken advantage of RealClearPolitics’ delightful “create your own map” tool.  I put North Carolina and Missouri safely in the Romney ledger, but put New Mexico and Michigan safely in the Obama ledger.  I am putting Minnesota in the Obama ledger too, but a Pawlenty-as-VP pick could change that.  The reality Read more […]

What’s Truth Got to Do With It?

You’ve heard it said that the First Amendment gives us the right to free speech, but it doesn’t give us the right to yell “Fire” in a crowded theater. In other words, with rights come certain responsibilities; we’re not given carte blanche to say anything we want at any time. The First Amendment also gives us the right of a free press, in the same breath, in fact, as it gives the right to free speech. From this, I think we can assume that the framers saw these rights as practically the Read more […]

Obama’s Convenient Pro-Israel Campaign

Should it come as a surprise that a few days before Mitt Romney is scheduled to visit Jerusalem, Obama signs a strengthened U.S.-Israel security bill and releases seventy million dollars to Israel touting America’s “unshakeable commitment”? The money is allegedly to help expand Israel’s short-range missile defense system, but I can’t help but wonder about the timing here. Romney doesn’t have access to Federal funds. He can’t campaign on the taxpayer’s dime. It’s like Obama sent Read more […]

“Death Panels” Alive and Well in the UK – Is US Next?

The UK has a government healthcare system much like the one Obama wants to implement here in the States. It’s run by the National Health Service and is funded mostly by taxes. Different “care pathways” are used to manage each patient’s health depending on the severity of illness. If the patient’s condition is beyond treatable and death is imminent, the patient is put on the “Liverpool Care Pathway for the dying patient” (LCP). The LCP functions much like hospice care here in the US. Read more […]
