Dr. Leroy Carhart is 1 of only 4 doctors in the U.S. to openly perform late-term abortions. He actually used to work for George Tiller, another late-term abortionist who was murdered in 2009. He had practiced in Nebraska until 2010 when Nebraska changed its laws to make abortions illegal after 20 weeks. He moved his practice to Germantown, Maryland where he currently works.
Late-term abortions are legal in New York, but only if they are performed when the health or the life of the mother is threatened. One New York couple, Jennifer Morbelli and her husband TJ, were about to have their first baby when they discovered that their unborn daughter Madison had some abnormality. They decided they didn’t want the child anymore. Because of New York’s abortion “restrictions,” they had to go some place else that respected women’s “reproductive rights” more. So, they traveled down to Germantown, Maryland and had Dr. Carhart perform an abortion on the 29-year-old mother when she was 33 weeks pregnant.
The abortion procedure apparently takes 4 days to complete, and 4 days after the abortion, Jennifer complained of intense pain:
“…[T]he family tried to contact Carhart to deal with his patient’s medical emergency, but he could not be reached. The family took Morbelli to nearby Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville, Maryland. She died later that morning from blood loss and hemorrhagic shock.”
This wasn’t the first of Dr. Carhart’s victims. Besides who knows how many babies he’s murdered, another mother died of complications from a late-term abortion in 2005, when Carhart was employed by George Tiller in Kansas. A 19-year-old girl named Christin Gilbert, who was born with Down Syndrome, was raped and carried her baby to 28 weeks, at which point her parents decided that she should have an abortion. Dr. Carhart performed the abortion, and much like Morbelli’s case, he was unreachable when the family tried contacting him for help when Christin started hemorrhaging days after the procedure. She was bleeding from every orifice, and she died in the hospital suffering from systemic organ failure.
Liberals like to focus on the cases where a woman dies following complications associated with her pregnancy. They blame those deaths on pro-life people, because maybe the mother could have been saved if she had had an abortion. But that would’ve been murder. I agree that doctors should do everything that they know to do to save both the mother and baby, but they should never intentionally kill either. When a mother or baby (or both) die from complications from a pregnancy, that is not murder. That is a tragedy.
But these two cases above aren’t even about saving the lives of the mothers. Neither had complications from their pregnancies. They just didn’t want their babies. And in Christin’s case, her parents, with the “help” from a psychologist, made that decision for her because she had Down Syndrome and was a rape victim. These people want to risk the mother’s and the baby’s lives in order to get rid of one life. I guess they’d rather have both dead than both alive. Their body, their choice.
