If God didn’t exist atheists wouldn’t have jobs. A person has to wonder why atheists bother attacking people, places, and things that mention God when they assure us that He doesn’t exist. They don’t attack witches, sprites, nymphs, unicorns, Santa Clause, and the Easter Bunny.
If God is truly not there, as atheists insistently believe and raise many to try to prove, it seems to me that in reality they are really unemployable. They’ve created occupations out of the ether for a way to make a living.
Atheists live in a world they can’t explain, either in its origin or its sustainability, and can’t account for its moral prescriptions. This is why an atheist must act in a clandestine way as an “interloper on God’s territory. Everything he uses to construct his system has been stolen from God’s ‘construction site.’ The unbeliever is like the little girl who must climb on her father’s lap to slap his face. . . . [T]he unbeliever must use the world as it has been created by God to try to throw God off His throne.” ((John A. Fielding III, “The Brute Facts: An Introduction of the Theology and Apologetics of Cornelius Van Til,” The Christian Statesman 146:2 (March-April 2003), 30.))
“A Washington-based group that works to separate God from government is demanding that officials in Florida remove several images from their city seal, due to their perceived Christian symbolism.
“Americans United for the Separation of Church and State (AUSCS), led by Barry Lynn, an attorney and licensed ‘minister’ in the United Church of Christ, recently sent a letter to officials in DeLand, Florida about the matter after receiving a complaint from a local resident. The organization is not releasing the name of the complainant, whom they state has asked to remain anonymous.”
The controversy is over the symbols: the cross, heart, and anchor that represent faith, hope, and charity (love), three things that atheists can’t account for given atheistic assumptions. So when atheists attack the seal, they are also attacking faith, hope, and charity because they do not have material substance. Noe one has ever seen faith, hope, and charity. They don’t exist in the material world.
Here’s what one atheist said: “We atheists are taking over.” (Sounds like an Islamic extremist.) “We will remove all this mythology from our government. You dinosaurs are on your way out.” Another ignorant atheist wrote: “This country was never founded on any religious principles. It was founded on neutrality and secularism. No to religion in government.” This guy must be a product of government schools.
Florida’s motto is “In God We Trust.” Anybody familiar with the history of Florida knows it was founded by Christians of the Roman Catholic persuasion. That’s why there are cities like St. Augustine named after Christian writer Augustine of Hippo (354–430) author of The City of God Against the Pagans, On Christian Doctrine, and On the Trinity.
The Preamble to Florida’s 1885 Constitution reads: “We, the people of the State of Florida, grateful to Almighty God for our constitutional liberty . . . establish this Constitution.”
In the West we are doing our best to destroy our Christian heritage but in China, Chinese intellectuals are coming around to the view that it is precisely this heritage that has made the West so successful.
Niall Ferguson is the Laurence A. Tisch Professor of History at Harvard University and the author of Civilization: The West and the Rest. There’s a quotation by a member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in which he tries to account for the success of the West. Here’s what he said:
“One of the things we were asked to look into was what accounted for the success, in fact, the pre-eminence of the West all over the world. We studied everything we could from the historical, political, economic, and cultural perspective. At first, we thought it was because you had more powerful guns than we had. Then we thought it was because you had the best political system. Next we focused on your economic system. But in the past twenty years, we have realised that the heart of your culture is your religion: Christianity. That is why the West is so powerful. The Christian moral foundation of social and cultural life was what made possible the emergence of capitalism and then the successful transition to democratic politics. We don’t have any doubt about this.”
These atheists should be careful what they wish for. Radical Islam does not believe in charity, and atheism can’t account for it.
