We know conservatives are winning because Obama admits to being a frustrated failure when it comes to getting more gun control.
Since Barack Obama is admitting defeat, we know that conservatives are winning on the issue. As reported on BBC: “Obama admits US gun laws are his ‘biggest frustration.’”
They posted a nice video of Barack Obama’s full quote. Sadly, I couldn’t get the embed feature to work on my website. Newser.com summarized the story: “Obama: Gun Control Is My Biggest Frustration.”
President Obama told the BBC that the biggest frustration of his presidency has been his failure to bring in stricter gun control laws, “even in the face of repeated mass killings.” He said he had been “stymied” in his efforts to introduce “common sense gun safety laws” since taking office. “If you look at the number of Americans killed since 9/11 by terrorism, it’s less than 100,” he said. “If you look at the number that have been killed by gun violence, it’s in the tens of thousands.” To not have resolved the issue “is distressing,” said Obama, whose latest executive order on the issue could add millions of people to the background-check system.
That executive order was reported by the L.A. Times, “Obama pushes to extend gun background checks to Social Security.”
Seeking tighter controls over firearm purchases, the Obama administration is pushing to ban Social Security beneficiaries from owning guns if they lack the mental capacity to manage their own affairs, a move that could affect millions whose monthly disability payments are handled by others.
The push is intended to bring the Social Security Administration in line with laws regulating who gets reported to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS, which is used to prevent gun sales to felons, drug addicts, immigrants in the country illegally and others.
A potentially large group within Social Security are people who, in the language of federal gun laws, are unable to manage their own affairs due to “marked subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease.”
That may be a setback but it is not a great one since many of these people were not interested in buying handguns. The fact is, however, that Barack Obama is massively understating his failure. It is not just that he has been unable to bring a halt to gun ownership and gun possession. The truth is that all his efforts have turned public opinion to be much more favorable to the Second Amendment. Now, even African Americans, who used to feel quite differently, have begun to widely value the right to bear arms recognized in the Constitution.
The more Barack Obama tightens his grip, the more people we see slip through his fingers.
