I’ve been pondering what to say about this project for tracking hate speech for two days. There is little more to be said than that it proves yet again that the Federal Government needs to be dismantled, department-by-department, until the only things remaining are those services explicitly enumerated in the Constitution.
Here is the story from the Free Beacon: “Feds Creating Database to Track ‘Hate Speech’ on Twitter.”
The federal government is spending nearly $1 million to create an online database that will track “misinformation” and hate speech on Twitter.
The National Science Foundation is financing the creation of a web service that will monitor “suspicious memes” and what it considers “false and misleading ideas,” with a major focus on political activity online.
The “Truthy” database, created by researchers at Indiana University, is designed to “detect political smears, astroturfing, misinformation, and other social pollution.”
The university has received $919,917 so far for the project.
“This service could mitigate the diffusion of false and misleading ideas, detect hate speech and subversive propaganda, and assist in the preservation of open debate,” the grant said.
Do you not see the incredible danger here? Who gets to decide what is “distorted,” and things that are “hate speech”? Is scientific research demonstrating that “Climate Change” is a manufactured myth going to be labeled a “distortion”? Is quoting certain things from God’s Word to be termed “hate speech”?
Do Democrats get to define these terms during their Administrations and Republicans during theirs? This is right out of the worst regimes in history—the ones which specialized in imprisoning and enslaving their own citizens:
The government-funded researchers hope that the public will use their tool in the future to report on other Twitter users.
Yes, report on your neighbor, get them sentenced to “sensitivity training” at a local “reeducation center.”
Someone please wake me from this nightmare, or please join me in standing against this encroaching reality which has tyranny written all over it.
