He claims the “horror” would have been unimaginable if one or more of Dylann Roof’s victims had been carrying.
The Democrats continue to politicize the Charleston massacre by talking about guns. In fairness, I don’t have the full context. So maybe this Democrat strategist, Bob Shrum, was responding to something someone else said to make a case for gun ownership. But the Democrats were talking gun control talking points within hours of the bloodshed.
So listen to what he said:
As The Blaze reported,
“I cannot imagine the horror that could’ve occurred if people were sitting around with concealed weapons, this thing started and you had a full-scale gunfight,” Shrum said Friday. “You might not even have three survivors.
Shrum’s words are incredibly stupid. Allegedly, Roof had time to reload five times. One man or woman with a conceal firearm would have saved many lives. Several armed people would have been even more sure to end the violence by Dylann Roof’s timely death.
The Right Scoop points out that this isn’t just theory. At least one other time an unbalanced hater has come into a church to shoot people, and he was stopped by someone who carried a concealed firearm. Shrum’s imagination is not a reliable guide to what happens. Concealed carriers don’t typically kill each other or innocent bystanders. They fire on the perpetrator and the perpetrator can no longer focus on all the innocent victims but has to concentrate his fire on the people who are armed. At the very least this makes it much more likely that people will escape the room.
But the really good news is something else that Shrum said: “I think, in 2016 in Democratic primaries this is going to be a big issue.”
Conservatives hope it will be a big issue. Because it is quite clear from demographic research that this sort of nonsense is going to cost the Democrats votes. This is especially true among African Americans who are realizing that the only way they can improve their safety and security is to arm themselves. They aren’t going to want to hear someone tell them that they can’t be trusted not to accidentally slaughter one another. The more Democrats talk about gun control, something Barack Obama stayed away from both in 2008 and in 2012, the more advantage Republicans will have.
