Why should a revolution in the government’s relationship to the internet be kept secret?
Ajit Pai, a Republican member of the Federal Communications Commission released a statement that began thus:
ON PRESIDENT OBAMA’S PLAN TO REGULATE THE INTERNET
Last night, Chairman Wheeler provided his fellow Commissioners with President Obama’s 332-page plan to regulate the Internet. I am disappointed that the plan will not be released publicly. The FCC should be as open and transparent as the Internet itself and post the entire document on its website. Instead, it looks like the FCC will have to pass the President’s plan before the American people will be able to find out what’s really in it.
In the coming days, I look forward to continuing to study the plan in detail. Based on my initial examination, however, several points are apparent.
First, President Obama’s plan marks a monumental shift toward government control of the Internet. It gives the FCC the power to micromanage virtually every aspect of how the Internet works. It’s an overreach that will let a Washington bureaucracy, and not the American people, decide the future of the online world. It’s no wonder that net neutrality proponents are already bragging that it will turn the FCC into the “Department of the Internet.” For that reason, if you like dealing with the IRS, you are going to love the President’s plan
One more time, the “most transparent” administration in history says we have to pass it, before we can find out what’s in it.
I’m sorry, if it’s so good for us, why do they need to hide it in the shadows—just like they did with Obamacare (a fiscal and health care disaster to end all disasters)?
At least this time the President didn’t lie—over and over and over and over again—that we would see the deliberations on C-SPAN (which he did for Obamacare, knowing all along it would be written in smoke-filled backrooms filled with health care providers, insurance companies and bureaucrats who would rake in millions and billions—you know, upstanding sociopaths like Jonathan Gruber).
Who will protect us from yet another tyranny? Republicans? Ha! Democrats? Are you kidding—defy Dear Leader? Nope, we’re going to see freedom diminished in further ways, free-speech attacked, and our household expenses increased by a plethora of new taxes and regulations that will make our overlords ever more drunk with power and wealth.
The beating and plundering of the slaves (that would be us) will continue, until America finally wakes up to the fact that both the Republican and Democratic Parties are enemies of the citizens and the Republic.
Prove me wrong, Republicans in Congress… I’d be more than thrilled to admit it.
