Defunding Planned Parenthood removes options from consumers and is thus forbidden say the people who promised we could keep our doctors.
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. People who lie for and steal for (taxes) an organization that devours infants for their spare parts are not going to be ashamed to commit a bit of bold-faced hypocrisy. Such people are quite shameless. How could they not be?
But the excuse they are giving to claim that Alabama can be prosecuted for defunding Planned Parenthood still blows my mind.
As I wrote last week, the governor of Alabama has ended their relationship with Planned Parenthood so that Medicaid funds will no longer be available to the abortion organization. Naturally, the Obama Administration is stepping in and threatening Alabama.
The Hill reports, “WH warns states: Defunding Planned Parenthood might break law.”
The Obama administration has warned Louisiana and Alabama that they could be violating federal law by cutting off Planned Parenthood from their states’ Medicaid programs.
The Republican governors in both states this month terminated their state Medicaid contracts with the organization in the wake of controversial undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood officials discussing the price of fetal tissue for medical research.
But the White House points out that federal law says Medicaid beneficiaries may obtain services from any qualified provider and that cutting Planned Parenthood out of the program restricts that choice.
The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicare Services (CMS) has contacted Louisiana and Alabama about the issue.
“CMS has notified states who have taken action to terminate their Medicaid provider agreements with Planned Parenthood that they may be in conflict with federal law,” Department of Health and Human Services spokesman Ben Wakana said in a statement.
“Longstanding Medicaid laws prohibit states from restricting individuals who have coverage through Medicaid from receiving care from a qualified provider,” he said. “By restricting which provider a woman could choose to receive care from, women could lose access to critical preventive care, such as cancer screenings.”
The claim that women really receive care from Planned Parenthood that they can’t get anywhere else is bogus. But what really stands out here is the breathtaking hypocrisy. The same Administration that lied through its teeth to us, promising “If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor” and “if you like you policy you can keep your policy,” is now threatening states by claiming it is wrong and illegal to deprive people of choice in medical care, even when they are not paying for it. The same Administration that restricted our choices is now threatening Alabama and Louisiana for allegedly restricting options to Medicaid users.
I hope and pray more states join in the move to defund Planned Parenthood and that they tell the Federal hypocrites where they can go.
