Now that cooler heads have finally prevailed in Ferguson, Missouri, I want to step back a couple of weeks and address the Ferguson sniper pictured below. Imagine those who rationalized there was any possible excuse for this level of police response.
We should never… never… ever… see something like this in America again, unless we are under attack from a foreign power. Never. He is looking through the sight of a weapon-of-war at innocent American citizens.
What is wrong with him?
This officer should be fired for a total lack of appropriate moral reasoning. The employment of those who put him up there, with that gear, should also be terminated, and those individuals should not be allowed back into law enforcement.
Remember, no one was shooting at this guy. This was overkill to the max, and they didn’t even intervene in the looting in many cases according to reports. They just sat in their big boy toys and watched the city burn.
You don’t need this get-up to shoot someone throwing a Molotov at you… and that’s what they should have done to those individuals to meet deadly force with deadly force.
The bottom line is that this is an incident to make everyone sit back now and reassess. Officials blew it. The media was abominable. The police acted like Rambo, or shirked their duty and let thieves and thugs run wild. Simply a mess all around.
The police “army man” nonsense in Ferguson, Missouri was just the tip of a very deadly iceberg. As a few more people go full-auto-evil, the police response gets ratcheted up and treats all of us as enemies.
A nation of people without self-restraint will be restrained by force. As French philosopher Alexis deToqueville wrote:
America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.
We banished God, and goodness is rapidly following Him out the door.
I was reminded of that reading John Whitehead recently, who quoted D. H. Lawrence in the context of Ferguson’s militarized police:
Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. And their grandchildren are once more slaves.
Why do you think so many movies today are about apocalypse and dystopian futures? The artists in our midst can feel what’s coming if a massive spiritual reawakening does not occur. I’m praying and working for that awakening.
State and local officials who did not immediately react to this scene by moving to ensure it does not happen again should likewise be booted, never to disgrace public office again.
Why is this not the universal cry of the American people?
