How Business Can’t Beat Back ObamaCare and Other Government Mandates

A new survey shows that a majority of people believe businesses should pay for contraceptives. Let’s do a survey and ask these same people if their employers should pay for lunch. I bet we would get a high percentage of people that would say “yes.” It would be like asking wolves if they would rather have carrots or lamb for dinner.

Can you imagine what our nation would look like in 20 years if people got to vote for how much money was to be paid to them from other people with money? Wait! We don’t need 20 years to find out; it’s happening right now!

The voters in Detroit are demanding that President Obama bail out their city because they voted for him. Here’s how City Council member JoAnn Watson put it:

“Our people in an overwhelming way supported the re-election of this president, and there ought to be a quid pro quo, and you ought to exercise leadership on that.”

Nearly 75 percent of Wayne County voters supported Obama in the November 2012 election. Now it’s time for Obama to pay up. The problem is, Obama doesn’t have any money. Any money he gets his hands on comes from other people. He has to take it in order to give it.

How can we get people to understand that voting for programs and benefits has a cost? Somebody has to pay for them. Is it right to vote for a group of people to take money from your neighbors because you need some? If someone thinks it is; then he is an accomplice to larceny. It would be like driving the getaway car. The driver didn’t rob the bank; the guy with the gun did. Even so, both are guilty of the crime.

Getting someone else to do something that would be illegal under normal circumstances does not make it right if we empower people to do it in the name of “government.”

Here’s how businesses can fight back against theft by democratic tyranny. Whatever the extra costs are going to be for the implementation of a program like ObamaCare or the bailout of Detroit, an employer should pass the costs on to the employees. Let’s say that ObamaCare is going to cost a business $150 per employee each month. The employer deducts the cost from the employee’s pay check with a note explaining why.

With that note, the employer should include other mandated employer costs — health insurance, Workman’s Compensation, and unemployment insurance.

I would do the same with the employer’s side of Social Security and Medicare. I bet that most employees do not know that their employer is paying what they pay in Social Security and Medicare. Someone making $50,000 a year is paying around $3500 in FICA and Medicare taxes (a little more than 7% up to around $115,000). The employer is paying the same amount — $3500.

The government forces food manufacturing companies to post on packages what a product contains. Why not develop a Government Cost label on employee check stubs listing all the costs associated with running a business – from utilities and insurance costs to mandated government employment regulations to Social Security and Medicare.

Maybe the people who want “free stuff” will wise up.
