Irony: Deputy County Clerks Issue Fake Marriage Licenses

Deputies are obeying a judge’s order to give out marriage licenses that are probably “not worth what they are written on.”

It is somewhat satisfying to see Liberals engaging in symbolism that only demonstrates their own impotence. The judge in this case has imprisoned Kim Davis until she recants and agrees to issue marriage licenses to couples of whatever sexes (she stopped issuing all marriage licenses after the Supreme Court decision).

The judge also threatened the deputies and got five out of six to say they would issue the marriage licenses. And they have done so, issuing them to both real married couples and same-sex couples.

But deputy county clerks are not elected officials. They are simply appointed by the county clerk to help her in her office. They have no state constitutional authority to do anything without the authorization of the actual elected officer. The only one elected to the position to sign marriage licenses in Rowan County, Kentucky, is Kim Davis.

Thus, the Washington Times reports, “Kim Davis, jailed Kentucky clerk: Marriage licenses for gays are void.”

Kim Davis, the clerk who on Thursday was jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples in Rowan County, Kentucky, said Friday that marriage licenses issued while she has been in jail are void and “not worth what they are written on” because she didn’t authorize them.

Mrs. Davis‘ attorney Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel told reporters that his client is in good spirits and “has already been doing Bible studies with herself” in jail. He said Mrs. Davis is prepared to stay locked up as long as it takes to uphold her religious freedoms, the Chicago Tribune reported.

“She’s not going to resign, she’s not going to sacrifice her conscience, so she’s doing what Martin Luther King Jr. wrote about in his letter from the Birmingham Jail, which is to pay the consequences for her decision,” Mr. Staver said.

If the judge wants to get Kim to be intimidated enough to obey him rather than follow Jesus, he had better find a way to ban her from reading the Bible while in jail. Being reminded of the Lordship of Christ and the reality that we will all stand before Him to answer for everything we have done in this life, is not going to make her more likely to submit to his will on this matter.

Of course, a better idea would be for him to read the book for himself and meditate on those same truths.

In the meantime, we see the state is now giving fake marriage licenses to homosexual couples. In this case, truth isn’t just stranger than fiction; it is also more entertaining!
