Ho ho ho.
According to the Washington Times, heads of organized crime syndicates we otherwise know as “mayors” gathered in Washington DC to talk business.
Meeting with newly elected mayors at the White House Friday, President Obama called on Congress to spend more money “right away” for extended unemployment benefits and to raise the federal minimum wage to help struggling cities.
“You’ve got potentially 1.3 million people during Christmas time that are going to lose their unemployment benefits at a time when it’s still very difficult for a lot of folks to find a job,” Mr. Obama said. “That’s not just bad for those individuals and those families, that’s bad for our economy and that’s bad for our cities.”
And, to finish the thought: cities are sources of voters—in some cases of more votes than voters.
Of course, if Congress gets stupid and caves in to Obama’s demands, the Democrats will get all the credit for championing the issue.
Despite the fact that Congress is not renewing jobless benefits and hasn’t raised the minimum wage law, all is not lost for the mayors. “Among the topics discussed at the meeting in the Roosevelt Room of the White House were transportation, infrastructure projects and education.” The Ryan budget has already increased spending. It is quite likely that, assuming the Senate passes the budget, there will be a bunch of goodies dispensed through Federal agencies under Executive control.
The President is openly buying power and influence from the Mayors with public money and using the fig leaf of the public good to cover his actions.
Notice the Politicker headline for one of the mayors who attended, “Bill de Blasio Walks Away From White House Meeting With Sweeping National Hopes.”
Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio went down to Washington, D.C. today to meet with President Barack Obama, emerging emboldened that a “progressive movement” was sweeping the nation.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, which included 15 other newly-elected mayors, Mr. de Blasio said it was clear to him that the fight against inequality–which formed the centerpiece of his campaign–was gaining steam far beyond the five boroughs.
Again: the “fight against inequality” simply means federal dollars to Liberal city governments so they can provide free bribes to the voters, like childcare or “pre-k” and “early childhood education.”
The meeting, organized by the White House, had been called “discuss the ways in which the Obama Administration can serve as an active partner on job creation and ensuring middle class families have a pathway to opportunity.” Speaking in the Roosevelt Room, Mr. Obama said he hoped to partner with the city leaders to help them achieve their goals.
Translation: he wants to give money to his political supporters—money which Paul Ryan has been instrumental in providing to the Federal agencies he will use for the transfers.
Note well, by the way, that de Blasio—a truly dedicated and disgusting death-loving Liberal—is now the leader of the pack.
Mr. de Blasio reportedly sat front and center in the room, directly across from the president as he discussed the recent budget deal, the importance of extending unemployment insurance and the potential benefits of raising the minimum wage.
Mr. de Blasio then led the group out of the West Wing, where he spoke to reporters on behalf of his colleagues, expressing excitement the president had echoed their vision.
Pay attention: You’re seeing the selection of a future, worse-than-Obama president. This is a practical political reason why stopping the Federal spending is the primary issue. It isn’t just that the debt destroys the economy. It is that the spending gives power to Liberals.
