Lying About Gun Violence To Deter Gun Ownership

It isn’t just the UK government that fudges the truth. It happens on this side of the Atlantic as well.

Katie Pavlich at reports,

Earlier this week we learned of NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s $1.1 million anti-gun advertisement buy for Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Terry McAuiliffe. Bloomberg funneled the money into Virginia through his PAC, USA Independence and advertisements have been running on radio and television since Tuesday. One television ad in particular targets the “gun show loophole” and states in a voiceover, “The gun show loophole. It means anyone can buy a gun without a background check.” The ad shows photos of mass murders Seung-Hui Cho (Virginia Tech), Adam Lanza (Sandy Hook), Aaron Alexis (Navy Yard) and James Holmes (Aurora Colorado theater) while implying these killers purchased their guns through this so-called “loophole.”

But, as she points out, none of the killers got their guns through a gun show, whether with a background check or not.

Adam Lanza, as we all know, got his guns from his mother. And she easily passed her background check.

Seung-Hui Cho, Aaron Alexis, and James Holmes all purchased firearms from stores that required background checks. Every single one of them passed their background checks.

So closing the “gunshow loophole” would not have stopped even one of these mass shooters from getting a firearm.

Of course, the ad works by flashing these (irrelevant) images and getting a narrator to spin his tale in a scary voice. I can only hope that the people are becoming immune to this behavioral conditioning and will act like free men by thinking for themselves and educating themselves.

The last place one ever finds free and independent thought is in a political campaign.

Remember the wisdom of Frank Herbert (author of Dune). Fear is the mind killer.

Politicians know it.
