New York Gun Thieves Guided By “Gun Map”

At least two burglars broke into the home of a 70-year-old in White Plains, New York on Davis Street. Other residents on the street told local news that they hadn’t seen a burglary on that street in 15 years. The burglars were after the homeowner’s guns that he kept in a safe in an upstairs room. They were however unsuccessful in breaking the weapons out of the safe.

How did they know this homeowner had guns? Police are all but admitting that there is a connection between the map that the Journal News published of all the names and addresses of handgun owners in the area and the robbery that occurred last Saturday in White Plains, the city where the Journal News is headquartered. The victim’s name and address appeared on the interactive map of gun permit-holders. Since there hadn’t been a burglary there for a long time, it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to think that these criminals were aided by the map that had just been published not long before, since it was the guns they were after.

If there is indeed a connection, this not only shows the stupidity of the Journal News in attempting to shame legal gun-owners, but also the folly of gun registration. Gun-owning criminals got a pass because they wouldn’t dare register their weapons. Obviously, they wouldn’t want the government to know they have a bunch of guns. And we shouldn’t want that for ourselves either.

We don’t need the government at any level to be the one to grant us permission to exercise our Constitutional rights. Registration and permitting is just asking the government for permission. But it’s also asking for trouble. A government that can grant us our rights can also take those rights away. Or so they’ll try. In reality, even while they might overpower us, we’ll never lose the right to defend ourselves, our family or our country.

Gun registration and subsequent confiscation is often compared to tyrannies in the past such as the Nazis. An article appearing in American Rifleman made this observation:

“After invading, Nazis used pre-war lists of gun owners to confiscate firearms, and many gun owners simply disappeared. Following confiscation, the Nazis were free to wreak their evil on the disarmed populace.”

In November of 1938, the New York Times ran a story with the headline, “Berlin Police Head Announces ‘Disarming’ of Jews”:

“The Berlin Police President, Count Wolf Heinrich von Helldorf, announced that as a result of a police activity in the last few weeks the entire Jewish population of Berlin had been “disarmed” with the confiscation of 2,569 hand weapons, 1,702 firearms and 20,000 rounds of ammunition. Any Jews still found in possession of weapons without valid licenses are threatened with the severest punishment.”

Gun registration allowed the Journal News to publish a list of all gun-owners in the area. Registration gives criminals and governments (is there any difference anymore?) the information they need to steal or confiscate people’s means of self-defense.
