When Barack Obama first ran for president, one of his major promises was to “repair” America’s image around the world, which liberals thought was greatly damaged by standing up to Muslim terrorists.
Since then, Obama has repaired America’s image all right. He’s repaired the hell out of it.
If there was any doubt about America’s standing in the world’s sight, all you’d have to do is listen to the recent interview of Russian President Vladimir Putin on CNBC during a St. Petersburg economic conference.
The interviewer got the ball rolling by bringing up President Obama’s accusations that Putin lied about the Ukraine: “You have said ‘we are a room full of adults,’ so let’s have an adult conversation. President Obama has accused you of untruths, as you know, when it comes to supporting some of the separatist groups in the Ukraine.”
Putin’s response was one of what could be termed practiced disdain.
“Who is he to judge? Who is he to judge, seriously? If he wants to judge people, why doesn’t he get a job in court somewhere?” Putin replied.
He continued, “I don’t think he accused me. … What is it that interested you about what he said?”
That’s what we in California call the Mall Bunny Snub. Although best appreciated when spoken in a Valley Girl dialect, the contempt still comes through in Russian.
You can watch the segment here. The translator’s voice over obscures most of the audience reaction, but you can still hear the laughter at the end and see the interviewer’s reaction.
So after five years of Obama’s foreign policy mucking up the Middle East, turning over Iraq and Afghanistan to the likes of al-Qaida and the Taliban, allying with the Muslim Brotherhood, calling for a war in Syria that no one was interested in, and demonstrating spectacular flaccidity in the Ukraine situation, this is where Obama has taken America’s reputation.
Under Bush, America was seen as a country that, while it might not always be right, was more than capable of handling itself in a fight against the world’s bad guys.
Under Obama, America is seen as an aging, navel-gazing hippy more worried about transgender “equality” than in defending its real interests — in other words, foolish and weak.
President Obama has “repaired” our image all to pieces. We’ve gone literally from world power to punch line.
