Official Court Verdict: Sudanese Woman Will be Hanged for Confessing Christ

Meriam Ibrahim’s death sentence is now official. The wife of an American citizen, and mother of two Americans, is to be flogged and hanged for the “crimes” of being a Christian, and marrying a Christian. To be clear: although the charge is apostasy, she has never been a Muslim; although the other charge is adultery, it is for having relations with her husband.

From al-Arabia News:

A Sudanese woman doctor who married a Christian man was sentenced to death on Thursday for converting to Christianity, despite Western appeals calling to respect freedom of religion.

According to the Sudanese officials, 26-year-old Meriam Ibrahim, whose father was Muslim, was convicted on Sunday and given four days to repent and escape death. She was sentenced after that grace period expired, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.

“We gave you three days to recant but you insist on not returning to Islam. I sentence you to be hanged to death,” Judge Abbas Mohammed al-Khalifa told the woman, addressing her by a Muslim name, Adraf al-Hadi Mohammed Abdullah.

The court in Khartoum also ordered Ibrahim be given 100 lashes for committing “zena” – an Arabic word for illegitimate sex – for having sexual relations with a non-Muslim man.

The couple married in 2011 and have a child, born 18 months ago. Under Sudanese law, Ibrahim’s marriage to a non-Muslim is regarded as void, the Associated Press reported.

Mr. Obama, I’m sure if you had a son he would look like Meriam’s… are you going to say anything? Will you defend American citizens and their wife and mother? Or is your silence again going to reveal you as a sham? Do you only defend the guilty?

Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), where is your protest? This can’t be an example of the “peaceful religion” you’re constantly defending in the United States. Or… is it? Your silence regarding this atrocity will once again confirm the answer.

Let’s pray for Meriam, her husband, and two children (the children, one a toddler, and the other to be born in the next few weeks have been in prison with her).
