We fought a war for independence. We wanted to be independent of the British government, which had grown increasingly tyrannical. The early Patriots fought and died so that their descendants could live in a free country. There was never any doubt about that.
But the Founders weren’t naïve. They knew that tyranny was always lurking around the corner, and that freedom and liberty would thrive only with constant vigilance. That vigilance has since faded, to put it mildly, and we’ve grown complacent and apathetic as a nation, leaving a vacuum, which is being occupied with tyranny once again, this time from our own government.
Take a step back and look at all the things our government does “for our own good.” The intelligence community isn’t just keeping tabs on what our enemies are doing. They’re logging everything American citizens do on electronic devices, whether it be emails, cell phone calls, internet activity or instant messages.
We see the IRS harassing the government’s political opponents. We see elected representatives demonizing and going after the 2nd Amendment. Our own Department of (in)Justice is involved with wiretapping and intercepting e-mails from certain news reporters and attempting to cover up their own gun-running operation. Homeland Security views anyone who is pro-life, against high taxes, critical of the Federal Reserve, in favor of sound money, etc. to be a potential domestic terrorist and therefore an “enemy combatant” in their never-ending “war on terror.”
The list goes on and on. And while we may view these things as tyrannical, liberals like Nancy Pelosi think these things are what make us “free.” She thinks Obamacare will bring people “health independence.” That’s like saying a person living off credit cards is “financially independent.”
And what better day to celebrate our “health independence” than on the 4th of July?
“Pretty soon, we’ll all be leaving for the 4th of July recess. Next week, when we celebrate Independence Day, we will also be observing health independence. This week marks one year since the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act. It captures the spirit of our Founders, the spirit they wrote in the Declaration of Independence – life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The Affordable Care Act offers just that – a healthier life; the liberty to pursue a person’s happiness; to be free of constraint. … And so if you wanted to be a cameraman, a writer, you want to be self-employed…whatever it is you want to do, you are free – you have the liberty to do. We’ve had Social Security, Medicare and now health independence. And that’s something our members will take home to celebrate over this Independence Day.”
Obamacare is anything but “health independence.” It is forced government dependence. It is tyrannical. They don’t actually want to truly take care of everybody’s health. They want control over everybody. They want to track, monitor and log everything about our health the same way the NSA keeps records of every aspect of our digital lives. It all has to do with power and control.
The invocations of “freedom” and “liberty” and “health independence” are just the doublespeak marketing slogans needed to sell their brand of tyranny to a largely ignorant, apathetic and enslaved populous who falsely believe they are free. Obamacare is something that our Founders would have fought against, not for.
