Rams Football Players Defame Police in Public for Ferguson

There is no IQ test that qualifies pro football players —that we know.

Here is the report on the Rams and Ferguson from Newser.com, “St. Louis Cops Fume Over Rams’ Ferguson Protest.”

At yesterday’s game, five players for the St. Louis Rams took to the field with their hands up, showing solidarity with protesters against the shooting of Michael Brown. “We wanted to come out and show our respect to the protests and the people who have been doing a heck of a job around the world,” says tight end Jared Cook, who says he plans to visit Ferguson, ESPN reports. The demonstration left the St. Louis Police Officers Association fuming. The organization is “profoundly disappointed with the members of the St. Louis Rams football team who chose to ignore the mountains of evidence released from the St. Louis County Grand Jury this week and engage in a display that police officers around the nation found tasteless, offensive, and inflammatory,” it said in a statement, as per KSDK.

“It is unthinkable that hometown athletes would so publicly perpetuate a narrative that has been disproven over and over again,” the statement quotes an association spokesman as saying, referring to the idea that former officer Darren Wilson, “according to some now-discredited witnesses, gunned (Michael Brown) down in cold blood.”

I couldn’t expose the hypocrisy any better than this from the Daily Mail: “Rams players should be PUNISHED for ‘hands up’ Ferguson protest, say St Louis cops: Police officers call on-field gesture ‘offensive’ as they demand an apology.”

“All week long, the Rams and the NFL were on the phone with the St. Louis Police Department asking for assurances that the players and the fans would be kept safe from the violent protesters who had rioted, looted, and burned buildings in Ferguson.

…As the players and their fans sit safely in their dome under the watchful protection of hundreds of St. Louis’s finest, they take to the turf to call a now-exonerated officer a murderer, that is way out-of-bounds, to put it in football parlance.”

Note to players: Please don’t expect any special treatment should you be stopped for a traffic violation, or caught punching your girlfriend, or abusing some female you just met. My guess is the police won’t be cutting you any slack, since you disrespect them by your brainless and culpably ignorant symbolism.

This case is about a drugged-out thug who robbed and physically attacked a store owner, then assaulted a police officer and tried to take his weapon, and got justifiably shot for continuing his rampage. This is NOT the case for any kind of discussion about relations between police and the “black community” unless it’s to say: Don’t be like Mike; don’t be a thug.
