Eminent Domain Strikes Again!

Eminent domain.  These are two words that should make most Americans shake in their boots.  Why?  These two words are indicators that the freedoms promised to citizens by the Constitution can be taken from them at any time on the whim of the federal government. According to thefreedictionary.com, the definition of eminent domain is: The power to take private property for public use by a state, municipality, or private person or corporation authorized to exercise functions of public character, following the payment of just compensation to the owner of that property. Donald Trump Says that Eminent Domain is Wonderful

He claims that people who oppose being forced to sell their land under eminent domain are being greedy. Everyone who knows anything about him knows that Donald Trump is no conservative. He is useful for destroying the Republican establishment, but while he may be better on a couple of issues, he is no more right-leaning than Jeb Bush. One things conservatives promote is the right to hold property without fear of it being stolen by the government. Thus, conservatives oppose eminent domain—in Read more […]

Thoughts on the Ten-Year Anniversary of Kelo

The tragic Supreme Court Kelo decision was a symptom of a much larger cultural and political and personal problem. Here is story that is not merely sad, but an example of the great evil enveloping America—a glaring indictment of the failure to love our neighbor seen in certain people’s transformation of civil government into a tool of oppression and plunder, rather than a humble servant of the people. It was posted by the Daily Signal: “Dreams Demolished: 10 Years After the Government Took Read more […]

New Jersey Claims Eminent Domain over Man’s House because They Might Want It for Some Reason

While eminent domain is supposed to be for a public purpose, New Jersey says they want the house and will decide on the purpose later. CNN Politics published a valuable editorial this week, “This man won’t let New Jersey take his home.” Senior digital correspondent Chris Moody writes, Since 2012, his property has been the target of a state agency that aims to use eminent domain to demolish his three-story property to build a yet-to-be-announced tourism village the state says will revitalize Read more […]

Judge: State Has Broad Power; Constitution Doesn’t Matter

Because the state has broad power, it can supposedly do things not allowed in the constitution. You may have noticed that the world keeps getting more like a dystopian warning novel written by a conservative or Libertarian. It started back during the TARP bailout in 2008 and the news continues to get more and more unreal. If some conservative had written a novel, for example, in which the architect for a totalitarian government program admitted on video (seven times no less!) that it was based Read more […]

Why I Don’t Think Conservatives Should Be Happy About The Keystone XL Pipeline

Recently the news has been full of stories about how Obama has run out of reasons to oppose the building of the Keystone XL Pipeline. I can understand why Obama can support the pipeline; I don’t understand why conservatives support it. Yes I am all energy abundance. I want that oil from Canada transported and brought to market. I think hydrocarbons are a gift from God and we are being ungrateful when we don’t use them. But I also believe in property rights. The premise of the Keystone Read more […]

Feds: Wolverines Are An Endangered Species Due To Global Warming

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed a rule that would allow wolverines to be added to the endangered species list on the basis of protecting them not from some other predator, but from “climate change.” So, I guess global warming is the predator, and since humans cause global warming, we’re the real predator. The proposal stated:  “In this proposed listing rule, we identified several risk factors for the wolverine DPS (Distinct Population Segment) that, in concert with climate Read more […]

Government Home Wreckers: You Could be Next

The greatest threat to the original American Dream is government. According to the Library of Congress, George Washington’s favorite Bible verses were those that spoke of every man dwelling safely under his own “vine and fig tree.” After the Revolution, when he had returned to Mount Vernon, he wrote the Marquis de Lafayette on Feb. 1, 1784: “At length my Dear Marquis I am become a private citizen on the banks of the Potomac, & under the shadow of my own Vine & my own Fig-tree.” Read more […]
