Pro-Police T-Shirt: “Obey Us or We Might Kill You”

Is “obey us” the only solution a pro-police advocate can propose? So here is an image that showed up in my Facebook feed over the weekend.  I don’t agree with everything in it. Among other problems, I’d like a court to hear arguments about the use of the word “murder” for what happened. My first thought was that I hoped this story is not true. But, at least in general, it is. From “Sales of ‘dangerous’ T-shirt soar today.” Sales of a controversial T-shirt appeared Read more […]

I Can’t Breathe

What makes us unable to breathe? I want to say right up front that I do not think that the cops are always right.  In fact, my involvement in on-the-street pro-life ministry has proven to me that the average cop does not even know the law.  They simply follow orders as directed by their superiors. I appreciate good cops.  We need more of them.  But merely wearing a badge does not give anyone the right to ignore or make-up the law.  We are a nation of laws.  When those who enforce Read more […]

Facing Facts: Would an Eric Garner Jury Have Found Guilt?

I was upset with most of this article, “11 Facts About the Eric Garner Case the Media Won’t Tell You,” even though I appreciate Newsmax and the writer: Sources in the mainstream media expressed outrage after a grand jury declined to indict a New York City policeman in the death of Eric Garner, but there are 11 significant facts that many of them have chosen to overlook: There is no doubt that Garner was resisting an arrest for illegally selling untaxed cigarettes. Former New York Read more […]

Jon Stewart on Eric Garner: Pushing Race

I want to like him, but Jon Stewart on Eric Garner really disappoints me. One of the Freedom-oriented pages in my Facebook feed shared a link to Jon Stewart’s rant about Eric Garner, with their own headline, “Jon Stewart Loses Some Faith in the State.” (Sidenote here: While I am frustrated by how much police can get away with, and I wish Eric Garner had been afforded the dignity of representation by a prosecutor, I doubt that criminal charge of much seriousness would have made it past Read more […]

NYPD Get Their Man! Arrest Man Who Videoed Police Homicide of Eric Garner

You may remember recently reading about Eric Garner. He was “arrested” in a way that left him dead. The death was video-recorded by New York City resident Ramsey Orta. Orta has now been arrested on the charge of carrying an unloaded gun. There is no explanation as to what benefits Orta expected to gain from a handgun without bullets. But, even unloaded, the gun is illegal. According to the local CBS station, Orta pleaded not guilty two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and is being Read more […]
