The Trouble with Foreign Aid to Developing Nations

It sounds good.  Stories of our financial support to developing nations make the US seem benevolent and good.  We send aid to a country, and the people are helped.  What could the harm be? The trouble with foreign aid to developing nations is that once the people receive the “free” money, they no longer have the motivation to find ways to earn money for themselves.  Their lack of earning then impacts the tax base which in turn makes it nearly impossible for governments to operate properly. ISIS: Best Enemy Money Can Buy

By sending aid “to civilians” that is knowingly being used to consolidate power in the Islamic state, and support ISIS killers, we are effectively creating the best enemy money can buy. United States strategy in its fight with ISIS: Fight the enemy… feed the enemy. Bomb the enemy… train the enemy. Kill the enemy… heal the enemy. Thus, the Daily Beast headline: “U.S. Humanitarian Aid Going to ISIS.” While U.S. warplanes strike at the militants of the so-called Islamic State in Read more […]

“Foreign Aid” is Really Merely U.S. Crony Capitalism Enslaving the Poor via Taxpayer Money

If you want to know why Congress and the White House refuse to end foreign aid, the answer does not lie in their deep compassion. Let’s take the recent example of El Salvador, which we are threatening to deprive of the aid we promised them. According to Foreign Policy, El Salvador is a recent example of corporate domination in U.S. foreign aid. The United States will withhold the Millennium Challenge Compact aid deal, approximately $277 million in aid, unless El Salvador purchases genetically-modified Read more […]

Dare We Hope the Eric Cantor Defeat Was About the NSA & the Forever War?

So far the main media narrative for the wonderful destruction of Eric Cantor’s time in political office, and the victory of Dave Brat has been nativism. Brat hates immigration reform (if not immigrants, as far as many in the media are concerned) and Cantor was a champion for it. Of course, that only works if Cantor was going to comfortably win until the very last days of the race when that issue came up. Under that theory, a boatload of Cantor-supporters suddenly switched sides at the last minute. Many Read more […]

Our “Ally” In Afghanistan Doesn’t Want Our Troops There, So We Are Threatening Him

What kind of friend has to be forced by threats to meet your demands? Hamid Karzai is supposedly the democratically-elected leader of Afghanistan. That is a laughable fiction, but it is one the U.S. supports. Obama wants Karzai to sign a “bilateral security agreement.” The administration even claimed that the agreement had been reached by mutual cooperation. Apparently Karzai disagreed because he has refused to sign the BSA. So the US decided that a threat would get him to cooperate. The Read more […]

Marco Rubio’s “New” Foreign Policy Is Stuck In The Old World

Rubio has all but shattered his Tea Party credential. Now he is setting himself up as an alternative to Rand Paul and, he would claim, John McCain. He gave an “exclusive interview” to the Daily Beast to get them to campaign for him. According to the headline, Rubio “slams both hawks and doves.” So I guess we’re supposed to see him as a third way. “It has become starkly apparent to me that we lack any sort of strategic foreign policy view, and when I say ‘we,’ I mean the country Read more […]

Liberals Treat the Poor Worse Than Animals

A friend sent the following to me: “The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 49 million people. “Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us ‘Please Do Not Feed the Animals.’ Their stated reason is because ‘The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves.’” The Read more […]

We Arm the Muslim Brotherhood Dictatorship

When I saw the headline, “Muslim Brotherhood inherits U.S. war gear,” I assumed this was re-telling us the story that the winner of the election gets all the stuff that his predecessor had. Whatever tanks or missiles or ships the United States sent to Egypt under Mubarak are now under the control of Morsi, the ex-Muslim Brotherhood president who has “given himself” unaccountable powers. (His status as “ex-Muslim Brotherhood is a minimalist PR move; he quit in order to run for President Read more […]

Why We Should Cut Foreign Aid To the Middle East

You’ve no doubt heard this quip: Foreign aid is taking from poor people in a rich country and giving it to rich people in a poor country. It’s nothing short of international welfare. Conservatives are traditionally opposed to national welfare and state-wide welfare. How much more should we be opposed to international welfare? Does foreign aid even accomplish its stated goals? Has giving more money to dictators that we helped prop up actually helped to stabilize the region or just make matters Read more […]
