Public Prayer and the Result, “Woodlawn”

Video Column: I don’t have TV nor do we watch TV in the MacAulay household, but recently I caught a short clip on of a former TV child star Candace Cameron-Bure on a show called “The View” where they were discussing the story about a high school football coach who recently defied a lawsuit threat demanding he stop praying on the field after games. This persecuted assistant coach’s name is Joe Kennedy and he is claiming the post-game prayer session is not mandatory and is Read more […]

Pray with Your Legs!

“God so loved the world that HE DID SOMETHING!!” That is what it said on the bumper sticker I used to have on my car.  The car is gone and so is the bumper sticker.  But I think it makes a very valid point. Our faith should call Christians to get off of their buttocks.  I am sick and tired of spectator-Christianity.  The Holy Spirit of God should inspire us to action.  Every where we look the enemies of the cross are advancing their agenda.  Christians, on the other hand, leave everything Read more […]

Supreme Court Decision On Prayer Is A Disaster, Not A Deliverance

Many Christians and Christian groups and even churches and church leaders are celebrating the recent Supreme Court ruling in a case known as Town Board of Greece, New York v. Galloway. It seems to be the conventional wisdom among these folks that the Supreme Court did a “good thing” in holding that the Town Board of Greece (and by implication, other legislative bodies) may pray before the commencement of their public functions. Given the totality of the circumstances, however, I believe Read more […]

Supreme Court Vindicates Christian Prayer By Denying Christ

Last week the Supreme Court of the United States issued its opinion in the case of Town of Greece, N.Y. v. Galloway. You may recall that this town council opened its monthly meetings with prayers offered by local pastors.  These prayers were Christian, often referring to Jesus Christ as Lord. An atheist and a Jew were upset, claiming they got their feelings hurt by these prayers.  In their own words, they “found the prayers offensive, intolerable and an affront to a diverse community.” Now Read more […]

Sky to Fall After Supreme Court Ruling on Public Prayer

With one ruling in favor of public sectarian prayer on Monday, the Supreme Court has destroyed the country so many people thought they lived in, where Christians are sent to the corner and told to shut up, like the Founding Fathers intended. “We are really angry,” said Rob Boston, a spokesman for Americans United for Separation of Church and State, which litigated the lawsuit against Greece, New York. “I mean really, really, really angry. Oh my Flying Spaghetti Monster are we angry.” “I mean, Read more […]

Is Praying In Jesus Name Revolutionary?

Carroll County (Maryland) Commissioner Robin Frazier opened up last Thursday morning’s Board of Commissioners budget meeting with a prayer containing references to Jesus Christ.  This is, of course, a perfectly normal and appropriate and legal thing to do. When Commissioner Frazier offered the prayer she was telling the truth and following the law. Now you’ve probably heard George Orwell’s famous phrase that “…in a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary Read more […]

Woman Who Stopped Potential School Shooter Should be Fired!

There could have been another school shooting at an elementary school except that Antoinette Tuff, a school clerk, “spent about an hour calmly persuading the gunman to put his rifle down and surrender.” (For some readers who are a little slow, there’s a lot of sarcasm in this article.) A gunman entered the school carrying an AK-47 and other weapons. Why he was able to enter the school is a question that I’ll let others answer. It seems to me that there should have been an armed security Read more […]

High School Wrestler Penalized Point for 2 Second Prayer Prior to Match

Nicholas Fant is a junior at Wake Forest-Rolesville High School in Wake Forest, North Carolina.  He is a wrestler in the 220 pound weight class who always drops to one knee for a two second prayer prior to entering the ring to start a match.  Fant made it to the state finals where he and his coach had mapped out his strategy for his first match. When Fant approached the wrestling mat, he dropped to one knee for two seconds for his prayer and then entered the ring.  To his and his coach’s Read more […]

Bill Maher Attacks Rick Perry Over Prayer Comment

Bill Maher does not rate much attention. I don’t watch his show, and I rarely pay attention to his attempts at comedy. He’s not very funny. It’s no wonder that he went into the baser things of life after his flop as an actor. He appeared in the forgettable 1989 film Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death and lesser known films thereafter. His latest attack on religion (almost a weekly occurence on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher) is a slam at Texas Gov. Rick Perry for suggesting that Read more […]

Does Prayer Change Anything?

As central as prayer is to the Christian life, there is a great deal of confusion over its purpose. Many believe that prayer is God’s prescribed method of asking Him for things. Others believe that prayer is simply communication with God. Still others believe that prayer is a way to learn God’s will. In reality, prayer is all of these things and none of these things. Prayer is asking God for things, communicating with Him, and a way to learn His will, but it isn’t ONLY any of these. Reducing Read more […]
