Laws Needed to Protect Ourselves from Drones

Artificial Intelligence (AI), the science behind the technology of drones needs to improve if we are to remain in control of the weapons used in war. Raw Story reports: Experts in artificial intelligence, lawyers and activists organized by the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots gathered at the United Nations on Tuesday to warn against a growing reliance on cheap drones and “stupid AI” that can be unpredictable in the real world. “Terminator always comes up,” Toby Walsh, a professor of artificial Read more […]

Drone Wars–Approved Assassinations

U.S. Citizens have put their heads into the sand on this issue.  The President and the Federal government as a whole hold tremendous power over life and death when it comes to drones.  The policy in the Obama White House seems to be “trust, but don’t worry about verifying.” Consider this summary of the approach taken by our leaders to kill campaign targets at the expense of others who are in no way a danger to anyone: “Taken together, the secret documents lead to the conclusion that Washington’s Read more […]

A War by Any Other Name … Is Doomed

John Kerry, a decorated veteran of the Vietnam Police Action, says that President Obama’s promise in a nationally aired speech to “destroy” ISIS is not a war. Having listened to Obama’s tough-guy speech given on the eve of the anniversary of 9-11, I’ll admit that the president’s plan sounds like a half-hearted attempt to appear to be “doing something” rather than a serious effort. However, there was a lot of talk about bombs dropping and military “advisers” advising in there, which does indeed Read more […]

Russians Have Syria Peace Plan, Obama Claims Credit

Secretary of State John “I Fought in Vietnam” Kerry was just bloviating when he suggested that Syria could avoid war with the U.S. by handing over all its gas weapon stockpiles to the international community by the end of the week. It sounded like a deadline wrapped in a veiled threat, so the State Department issued a quick clarification saying that Kerry was just speaking extemporaneously, sans teleprompter. But the Russians heard Kerry’s press conference and decided it wasn’t such a bad idea. Read more […]

Why Is The US Risking War In the Middle East To Save Muslims But Not Christians?

The news out of Syria seems to indicate that the Syrian government used chemical weapons on their own people.  That has Obama and US officials outraged.  They are preparing to take military action against the Syrian government of Bashar al-Assad.  Russia has warned us not to use military force against the Assad regime and Iran has threatened all-out war if we do. UN investigators are in Syria trying to determine if chemical weapons were used or not.  The death toll is unclear, but the estimate Read more […]

Mr. Obama’s War

The dog is being wagged as the White House finally decides to openly give military help to Syrian “rebels.” The mainstream U.S. media are acting like this is all a new and sudden development, when the military buildup and increasing tensions in and around Syria have been well-known to the rest of the world. On the heels of wargames conducted last weekend by the U.S. on the Jordan-Syria border, the United States and 18 other nations are beginning a 12-day series of exercises called “Eager Lion,” Read more […]

Sergeant York: A War Movie that’s Anti-War

Sergeant York (1941) is a war movie that carries an anti-war message. It’s the true story of World War I Medal of Honor recipient Alvin C. York (1887–1964). The York family eked out a meager existence in remote Pall Mall, Tennessee. Like most of the people in this area, Alvin had almost no formal education. Subsistence farming, hunting, and railroad work got the family by economically. While Alvin grew up in a Christian home, he rejected the Christian faith after the death of his father in 1911. The State Can’t Be Benevolent Because it Doesn’t Have any Money

The Obama administration believes the State — erroneously called “government” — is in the salvation business. The belief is so pervasive that it colors every program proposed by Washington. Sadly, millions of Americans willingly accept the canard that State-initiated directives are the engine of change for all that’s good in society. If history is any indicator, the faith is ill-placed. How many past political regimes that promised salvation instead brought tyranny and oppression? The Read more […]

Selfishness of the Fittest?

Ayn Rand became famous (infamous) for her views on altruism. As an atheist, Rand was convinced that doing things that were not in the individual’s own self-interest was pure foolishness. In order to make her point she used shocking language—not in the sense of being vulgar, but in the sense of being forthright. The title of one of her philosophical books (in reality, all of her books—even the fictitious ones—were philosophical) was The Virtue of Selfishness. Shocking? You bet. And yet this Read more […]

War-Hating Liberals Seem to Love War

A strong statement to make, I know, but let’s look at it: The U.S. had about 38,000 troops in Iraq and 36,000 in Afghanistan at the end of George W. Bush’s second term. Liberals hated him for it. Why, he was a war criminal, don’t you know, and he was a warmonger, and he was a Nazi and a child-killer! Not a day went by that the media wouldn’t report how many U.S. troops were killed that day. Two years later, under Barack Obama, there were an additional 10,000 troops in Iraq (48,000 total) and Read more […]
