The Supreme Court Decision: What It Means for You, Christian

The Supreme Court has declared that men and women possess the right to marry persons of the same sex. They’ve used the Fourteenth Amendment and presupposed that people who are erotically attracted to the same sex and who masturbate against people of the same sex are a kind of biological minority. Everyone who isn’t stupid knows that isn’t actually true, but it is a convenient fiction to use to impose a new moral order and persecute Christianity.

So everyone pretends.

But that pretense now has the force of law to override all states and almost certainly all private associations and religious institutions. Politicians and lawyers will become even bolder protecting homosexuals from “discrimination” by law while encouraging businesses to fire people who “don’t believe in gay rights”—who believe that a marriage is defined as one man and one woman rather than as two persons. Accusing an employer for “creating a hostile work environment” for homosexuals because he hires Christians will be an easy move.

So here is what I am reminding myself as I think about this Supreme Court fiat.

Matthew 8.22: “And Jesus said to him, ‘Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.’”

Jesus was talking to a son who wanted permission to bury his father. I can’t help but apply to my “fatherland.” The United States is over. Don’t let nostalgia for the Republic that was, make you hesitate to follow Jesus. Remember Lot’s wife (Luke 17.32).

Matthew 16.24-27:

Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done.

We are going to experience all sorts of intimidation and financial loss about acknowledging that same-sex erotic activity is sinful. It is a repudiation of the created order of male and female and an attack on the image of God which is found in the male-female relationship. As Genesis 1 sings it: “So God created man in his own image/ in the image of God he created him/ male and female he created them. That song won’t be tolerated. So you need to remember that Jesus can take care of you. Also, you will need to remember that Jesus’ disfavor is far worse than anything they can do to you. Stay faithful.

Matthew 10.34-37:

Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household. Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

The culture is now fully engaged in recruiting children and discipling them to join the pansexual Left. Public school, Facebook, Television (especially channels that are supposed to be for “family”), comic books, etc. It is all meant to reach into your home and recruit them.

Obviously, you need to be wise about how your raise your children and you need to pray for their perseverance in the Faith. But if your children go the way of the world, you need to remember that doesn’t give you permission to stop following Jesus. He warned you this might happen. So don’t stop believing.

Those are three passages I have been meditating on recently. I’m sure you have some Bible passages you think are helpful too. Please share them in the comments.

Also, I’ll leave you with one more. From Psalm 2: “He who sits enthroned in the heavens laughs.”

And, just to be clear, I’m not suggesting we give up the culture war. There is a lot more ugliness ready to be unleashed and we need to resist.
